L'Insonnia In Forno di zoldo

A 1960s-style mountain cabin. Like Little Red Riding Hood's house. In the summer, lunch is served outdoors. A fixed menu typical of the Zoldo Valley includes stew, pastin, musetto (a type of pasta) with coarse-grain polenta, beans and raw cabbage, and cooked cheese. Wine, water, coffee, and ice cream are also included. You can eat until you're fed up, as the price is fixed. The typical local food is excellent, home-cooked. Real food, and if you go in the evening, you can see the starry sky.

The atmosphere, both inside and out, is very rustic, pleasant, and captivating. Even the food, despite its simplicity, is plentiful, good, and tastes...just like home! The staff is also attentive and helpful.

The restaurant is located in a beautiful spot away from the chaos of the mountains in the Zoldo Valley, just off the provincial road. The welcome is a bit spartan: they find you a seat, the first one that becomes available, even with a reservation. Be careful, because it gets hot under the awnings and umbrellas in July. The menu is good: polenta, cabbage, stew, beans, onions, cooked cheese, and pastin. The muset isn't great and isn't a summer dish; I think they serve the same dishes every day. The red wine is too sweet, the fountain water isn't very fresh, but plenty... The ice cream is a unique flavor for everyone 🙄. Let's just say that the courtesy and welcome could be improved, also specifying that the menu is fixed and is served as you pass by, sometimes twice. The food, however, is tasty. Otherwise, it's spartan: either you like it that way or it's better to avoid it. 😅

The "L'Insonnia" restaurant in Val di Zoldo is a renowned establishment, one of those must-sees that everyone recommends. So, returning hungry from an intensive 15km trek to the Pramperet Refuge, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is rustic and basic, in perfect Belluno mountain style, with plenty of outdoor seating. They offer a complete set menu for €32 with pre-defined courses, but you can also order à la carte. We opted for the guided menu (as pictured) and didn't regret it at all: the package allows you to sample the various courses multiple times until you're full, and everything is included, from food, water, wine, ice cream, and coffee. What can we say? Our hunger (and hunger) were definitely satisfied! A highly recommended place for its excellent value. Get ready for a huge meal... just one piece of advice: it's best to go for lunch, because if you go in the evening you risk spending a sleepless night digesting, living up to the restaurant's name! 😀

A truly magnificent evening experience! Upon arriving in Val di Zoldo, I believe "L'Insonnia" is an almost obligatory first stop. I'm not saying this without a reason: the set menu, despite its simplicity, is varied and straightforward, and fits perfectly with the lightheartedness of arriving after a long journey, without even having to pay attention to the menu. Within minutes, we were already served, stress-free and without waiting, allowing us to relax right away without having to choose. The spaces are well-organized and suitable for every season: interiors with a unique atmosphere, an outdoor marquee ideal for summer evenings, and a completely open-air area. Excellent service and quality traditional food, truly nothing to complain about. Traveling with a child, I would have appreciated a few more games in the outdoor area in addition to the plastic playhouse (there's plenty of space). Also, perhaps I felt a slight lack of bread to mop up the sauce. Small details that don't detract from a decidedly positive experience: if I were to return to the area, it will be a regular stop. Highly recommended!

A historic and unparalleled place. The food here is authentic and plentiful, but you shouldn't have any etiquette issues or gastronomic pretensions. The best polenta taragna I've ever eaten in the entire Dolomites, paired with homemade dishes. Fixed-price menu.

I'll repeat this experience next week with my family. Excellent, high-quality food. It's been a fixed price for 60 years. I felt like a child again. We ate in this completely wooden attic and were served continuously, with excellent food and great company from other tables and customers. A magical place. At Estero, you can breathe in the mountain air, and the coolness of the trees accompanies the large canal below the restaurant, where you can relax to the sound of the water. It will be our place to unwind whenever the city starts to feel too small.
