The name says it all: you finish your plate and even mop it up with bread!
In addition to the excellent food, we were greeted and served by wonderful staff: kind, friendly, and helpful.

Honestly, I was scared when I saw it for the first time. But when we ordered our food, it was amazing. especially the cheesecake‼️

Atmosphere seemed plain, nothing special; almost cheap setting.
The service was nothing special - small venue with one waiter that added nothing to the experience.
The food was a big misteak. We ordered the Chianina, original fiorentine steak at 1.2 Kg, going at 8.50 per 100g. It was cooked rare...and burnt. Aside from the middlemost pieces, all I tasted was charcoal. There was a whole sprig of rosemary laid upon the steak, but that was for show and not part of the cooking to add any flavor.
The bread was also a lie. How to you serve bread with char marks that's cold and almost stale? A splash of olive oil was preemptively added probably to soften it up.
Our kid said the meatballs were nice, but take that as you will.
The wine selection was large enough, but had to be to drown my disappointment.
I might go back to try other things, but probably only if someone else invites me. Iconic dish falling flat is not a good look.

We’ve been in Italy for 1 week, and of all the meals we’ve had, we’re still talking about the peposo & tiramisu. We highly recommend this restaurant, it was such a delight!

I was in Florence for two days in July 2025 with my wife and son. On the second evening, we were looking for a restaurant on the way from our hotel to Piazza Michelangelo. We were guided solely by the reviews and chose La Scarpetta. The bottom line... we didn't regret it for a second.
When we entered the very unassuming restaurant, we initially thought we were in the wrong place. There's nothing typically Italian about this restaurant. The interior is made of plywood panels, but they were really well presented. The waiter was an Italian-Asian who was extremely friendly and accommodating. He spoke perfect English, making communication easy and engaging in small talk was really fun.
Now, let's get to the food. My family ordered egg-battered and deep-fried white bread with mozzarella on a bed of arugula, and I ordered the beef tartare from the specials menu. The beef tartare was perfectly dressed, tasted excellent, and presented in the style of a Michelin-starred restaurant. My family also really enjoyed the mozzarella bread.
For the second (and final) course, we had two pasta carbonaras and one tagliata with Parmesan and arugula. There was nothing to complain about with these dishes either. The guancale in the carbonara was very crispy, and the entire dish was perfect. The tagliata was also perfectly cooked and served medium-rare, just the way my wife likes it.
The evening was rounded off with an excellent bottle of Chianti Reserva from Tuscany.
If we ever find ourselves in Florence again, we will definitely visit La Scarpetta again. We really felt very comfortable, received excellent service, and had even better food.

We had a great meal at Trattoria La Scarpetta. We had a light meal with chicken and mushrooms with grilled vegetables, followed by a delicious tiramisu for dessert!

Good food.

Prices were similar to those found in trattorias.

Dinner for 30 people: appetizer, first course, Florentine steak, sorbet, coffee and amaro. What more could you ask for? Fantastic food, more welcoming. Try it and believe it
