Hostaria La Scalinata is an absolute gem and deserves every one of its five stars. From the moment we walked in, it felt like being invited into someone’s home rather than just another Roman restaurant. The staff are all senior, deeply experienced, and utterly professional, and they run the dining room with a warmth and ease that you simply can’t fake. They made an incredible fuss of my 81‑year‑old mum, chatting with her, joking with her, and making sure she had the best possible time....and she absolutely did. My mum also has some very serious food allergies, including no beef and no pork, and she carries an epi‑pen. When we handed over her medical card listing all the things she can’t eat, the staff could not have been more understanding or accommodating. They took the time to go through it carefully, reassured us, and made sure every dish was safe for her, which gave us huge peace of mind and let her relax and enjoy the evening. We enjoyed our first dinner there so much that we went back on our second night in Rome. A couple of days later, while we were across the street getting gelato, the gentleman who had looked after us on that first visit spotted us, waved, and called out to ask if we would be coming again. When we said, “Yes, later tonight,” his immediate response was, “I have a table booked for you,” and he blew my mum a kiss. That small moment summed up the whole experience: genuine hospitality, real human connection, and a feeling that they truly care about their guests. The food, atmosphere, and service all come together to create a cozy, authentic Roman experience that we will never forget. Hostaria La Scalinata is the kind of place you look forward to returning to before you’ve even left, and I will definitely go back the next time I’m in Rome. Absolute legends.

A warm welcome, excellent food (the pizza and lasagna were delicious), and an incredibly friendly waiter whose kind manner created a wonderful atmosphere. We felt welcome from the very first moment – ​​almost like visiting friends. We will definitely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I am not one to write a review, but this restaurant left such an impression on my whole family. Not only was the food delicious, but the service even better. Amadeo made us laugh and smile as we ate bolognese, lasagna, pizza, and tiramisu. This family of 5 (3 teens included) think this was the food highlight of our visit to Rome. Thank you for a memorable meal!!

It's hard to put into words how much I enjoyed my stay at Hosteria la Scalinata. The food is incredibly delicious, the owner and waiters are incredibly kind, and the atmosphere is typically Italian and pleasant. I only tried the Bruschetta Pomodoro, the Mixed Salad, and the Spaghetti Carbonara, and they were all delicious! And not exactly expensive!!! Thanks to Hosteria la Scalinata and everyone who works there! If you haven't been yet, I highly recommend it. And I'll definitely be back more than once. Thanks for the Limoncello!!!

It was a pre-theater evening, so time was tight, and there was that feeling of wanting to stay a bit longer, but the clock was pushing you elsewhere. In this Roman osteria, openly and inevitably touristy and frequented by people from all over the world, the first thing that strikes you is the "theatrical" service: friendly, quick with their wit, but above all professional, by those who truly know how to manage the room. The pizza, good, no complaints there, but it was a bit overshadowed, thanks to a packed and inevitably noisy place, the rush to finish, and the slightly high temperature, which dampened the impression. We'd gladly return, with more time, to try something more typically Roman: a traditional first course and especially the artichokes "alla giudia," which are definitely worth a try here, but also for the equally excellent service, for which we owe our gratitude.
