La Locanda del Cardinale In Assisi

I had dinner in this place together with my partner... at the entrance they asked us if we had booked, obviously not... But inside the place it was just us😂... We waited about half an hour for the food... Good refined food but the portions were really minimal for the €80 total of which €29 for two plates of cappelletti (there were 4 for each dish), €14 for two bottles of water and €6 for a cover charge.... Absurd!

Eravamo stati in questo ristorante parecchi anni fa e la prima impressione che abbiamo avuto e che ci sia stato un cambio di gestione. Entrare nel locale (non pieno) e attendere una decina di minuti che qualcuno si avvicinasse a noi, già non ci è sembrato un buon auspicio. Sulla bellezza del locale nulla da dire: location unica con pavimento in vetro su antichi mosaici di epoca romana. Molto da dire invece sul servizio: due soli camerieri abbastanza impacciati, che fra una qualunque richiesta e l'accoglimento della stessa facevano passare minimo un quarto d'ora e spesso entravano palesemente in contrasto fra loro. Camerieri che addirittura bevevano quello che restava nelle bottiglie dei clienti che andavano via! Se non l'avessi visto con i miei occhi non ci avrei creduto! Il cibo è stato discreto, non eccellente ma comunque di buona fattura. Il proprietario non si è fatto vedere, è entrato solo una volta uno chef per presentare un piatto particolare. Un po' di presenza fra i clienti non sarebbe male, come accade in tanti altri locali, dove i proprietari sono molto attenti e garbati. Posso dire che purtroppo non siamo stati bene sia per l'atmosfera che per la confusione nel servizio. Anche il prezzo non è stato certo "amichevole", anche se era da aspettarselo visto il tipo di locale. O siamo stati sfortunati noi, o c'è davvero qualcosa da cambiare per poter portare avanti al meglio un locale di questa bellezza.

We struggled to work the booking system but eventually booked for a quiet Monday evening. The setting is stunning but the food didn’t quite match up to expectations. We had the gnocchi and also the turbot from the a La carte menu. Both were good but the waitress didn’t leave the sauces with us which would have improved both. I can’t remember the rest of the meal which sort of sums it up. Lots of potential here to offer a good dining experience at a price in Assisi but on the night, it all fell a bit flat.

Very nice historical setting. Very good and well prepared dishes. Attentive and professional service. High level. Worth a visit.

Dinner with family on the 15th. Beautiful location enhanced by the floor-to-ceiling view of the "Domus Romana". Excellent appetizers with refined and quality products (such as Spello rice, pata negra, artichokes, cheese and eggs), the first and second courses are also good and worthy of mention (potato and nettle gnocchi with lamb sauce, spaghetti, tomato, vanilla and anchovies , goat's milk risotto with asparagus and savory), good cellar. Discrete but present, professional staff. The only note that is not up to par with the place and what is expected to close an excellent dinner are the desserts which I didn't actually have to make Wow, without praise or infamy. We will definitely return and it is worth recommending as much as a starred one

The place is a compendium of the history of Italian art: inside you can admire the mosaic floors of a Roman domus from the 1st century BC. and the Renaissance rooms with frescoed ceilings. The culinary proposal is signed by the starred chef Andrea Impero for a truly unique experience.
