Typical cuisine, courteous service, normal prices, essential wine list. The area, in terms of local cuisine, doesn't offer much, I think this is the only quality restaurant... Risotto, the "Panissa" very good!

Jack London in his fantastic book teaches that if you need information, what you need to do is go into a bar, order a drink and then, calmly, ask the bartender: if he doesn't know the information you need, he sure knows who to ask. For years I ran a café in the historic center of Novara and over many years I have recommended going to eat at La Gera to at least fifty people, to those who asked me for example "where can I still eat fried frogs?" , I did it because I had first-hand reviews from several customers who usually went there and I trusted them: typical products and quality, the opinions of certain people have weight! Then one Sunday my wife finally took me there with our little girl to celebrate our anniversary and now I know that I certainly didn't miss a single word of praise towards them! You are welcomed by the genuine and kind smile of the friendly owner, in a small but not too small environment, cared for but not too much so as to make it precious but not sophisticated, just enough to know that it is a high-class place but without making you uncomfortable . On the contrary! After a small entrée (strictly gluten-free for me at the request of my lady) together with a taste of sparkling Pinot Noir we order 3 appetizers and three risottos, incidentally my 6 year old daughter's appetizer was "I would like some slices of salami !" and she was satisfied without us having to take entire trays or mixed starters, just a little Varzi and a little local. My starter was a delicious courgette Tartrà with saffron cream and I must say that knowing that there is so much attention for those with gluten problems is a pleasure, the sauce, like all the others the owner told me, is made with cornstarch and not with wheat flour. The risottos were amazing, for their creaminess and cooking, a parmesan-based risotto with horse sausage, made like Bra sausage. The final dessert, for me, was a classic tiramisu but also in this case with gluten-free ladyfingers, coffee, bitter Dandelion from Valdotaine and an excellent grignolino from Monferrato throughout the meal. In this regard I would add that the whole place looks like a typical Monferrato restaurant. The lady's husband in the kitchen: good Chef! We have a new place of heart! PS: my wife's dishes, apart from the risotto which was the same for everyone, I didn't even notice how "choppy" I was with my parents.
