In the heart of the ancient village of Castiglione della Pescaia, La Fortezza is much more than a restaurant: it's an experience that combines atmosphere, quality, and authentic hospitality. To reach it, you walk along the evocative walls of the ancient city and descend a characteristic flight of wide stairs that leads to a truly special place. Upon returning, the climb is amply rewarded by the wonderful experience. Upon arrival, you're greeted with a welcome glass of Prosecco, a gesture that speaks volumes about the attention and care reserved for guests. The staff is simply exceptional: professional, knowledgeable, smiling, kind, and always attentive to every need. The cuisine is excellent: I recommend the meat and seafood appetizers, rich and carefully prepared, as well as the bruschetta, original and truly delicious. Among the first courses, the homemade Maremma tortelloni, authentic and flavorful; The main courses were also excellent: the tagliata with arugula and parmesan was super tasty, while the wild boar truly deserves an A+, as my husband said, and I can only confirm. The wine list was also very well-received: extensive and well-selected, with an excellent selection of wines by the glass. The homemade desserts rounded off the dinner perfectly.
Special praise goes to the variety of the menu: it's rare to find a certified celiac menu, a vegan menu, a children's menu, and complete meat and fish options in the same restaurant, all prepared with great care and quality.
A heartfelt thank you to all the staff for making our dinner unforgettable. If you're looking for a restaurant where attention to the finest ingredients, hospitality, and atmosphere come together, La Fortezza is a must-see in Castiglione della Pescaia.

Given the reviews, how could I not go there? Well, given the reviews...
Unfortunately, I'm not writing this review to discourage future customers, but rather to recommend the place.
When I received the bill, I was asked, "Is everything okay?" I wanted to say no, but not knowing if I was dealing with the owners or the employees, I preferred to say, "Let's say yes."
I'll start by saying that I lived in Siena for 10 years, so I ate Tuscan cuisine every day, and I would eat it every day. Furthermore, this week I had the opportunity to take my wife to several places to try Tuscan cuisine. Let's leave aside the chickpea and bean soup, which wasn't much of a soup; the pici cacio e pepe were good, I admit, and I repeat, I don't want to discourage the place. Unfortunately, the wild boar cacciatore was too tough. A word of advice to the owners: try going down the street and trying the one from the "cantinetta." I'm talking about wild boar, one cacciatore-style, the other stewed, but how well cooked the wild boar is (I mentioned a place that perhaps only excels at the wild boar; for the rest, I have to give a review there too, which isn't great, and the service also plays a role). Otherwise, the service was good. I appreciated the prosecco at the start, and the kindness and knowledge of the waitress who took our order.
I hope to return and see that there's been an improvement.

The restaurant's location is stunning, and the venue is truly beautiful. We arrived without a reservation, yet were greeted with great courtesy. The welcome prosecco and the waiters' introductions were much appreciated: a professional and pleasant welcome that set the experience off to a great start.
Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the rest. The fish didn't seem as fresh as we expected. The seafood linguine was rather meager in quantity and seasoning, the calamari was tough, and the mussels, while flavorful, were decidedly overcooked.
Furthermore, we noticed other dishes being served that were much more generous and carefully presented than ours, and this left us a bit perplexed. I don't know the reason for this difference, but as a customer, you expect the same treatment for everyone.
It's a real shame, because the location, the welcome, and the service truly deserve so many compliments. With a cuisine more worthy of the setting, it would be an excellent restaurant.
Table reservation required. Excellent selection of dishes and wines. Very friendly and efficient staff. Beautiful location in the rock vault! Highly recommended!

Based on the reviews, I expected a great experience, but instead it was a dinner that left nothing to be desired. For example, the seared tuna was overcooked, with a breading that covered the flavors. In other words, I've had better. The service was excellent, the waiters always friendly and kind.

We went to La Fortezza restaurant for the first time at the beginning of our stay in Castiglione... an incredible place, super welcoming and efficient staff, and amazing cuisine! In short, we returned almost every night! I recommend it without hesitation!
We will definitely be thinking about it all year long once we return home to Geneva...

A refined restaurant, with exceptional dishes at still reasonable prices.
The staff is friendly, welcoming, and entertaining.
We returned to this place twice in the space of a few days, having already left our hearts there last year.
Congratulations!

We stumbled upon it by chance after climbing up to the fortress, and they seated us even though we hadn't booked. The staff was friendly, without being intrusive. We enjoyed a mixed seafood appetizer and two first courses: linguine allo scoglio and seafood risotto. Everything was delicious. We finished with two delicious desserts! We really enjoyed our stay, thank you and congratulations on your work.
