15/04/2026: I booked a dinner for seven for my birthday, specifying that I was especially interested in their fantastic pasta with scorpion fish. Result: 5 STARS WITH HIGH GRADE.
The delicious and fresh appetizers (salmon, octopus, baby octopus, dogfish, gratinated mussels, marinated anchovies, bruschetta with shrimp) were all gone in the blink of an eye.
Next came a pasta dish with scorpion fish that would be worthy of a frame.
Then, just to keep with tradition, a fragrant mixed fried fish dish, not at all greasy and incredibly fresh.
Sorbet, Tramari rosé wine, coffee, and amaro.
All served with kindness, professionalism, and precision.
Thank you all for making our evening a truly enjoyable one.
5 STARS WITH HIGH GRADE.
14/04/2026: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A dip in the Mar Piccolo at "Gente di Mare"
If you're looking for the true essence of Taranto, the scent of freshly hauled nets and the sea breeze, Gente di Mare is a must-see. It's not just a restaurant, it's a declaration of love to the city of two seas.
🦐 The Culinary Experience
The absolute strength here is the raw materials. There's not too much artifice: the fish is so fresh that it almost seems superfluous to cook it.
• The House Antipasto: An endless carousel of flavors. From Taranto mussels (unsurpassed for sweetness) to poached octopus, to fried mixed seafood that is light and crispy, never greasy.
• The Raw Fish: For true lovers of the genre, the raw fish platter is a ritual. Red shrimp, scampi, and oysters that taste of the pure sea, best enjoyed with a drizzle of local olive oil.
• First Courses: Don't miss the seafood spaghetti. The pasta holds its shape perfectly, and the sauce is a savory and rich emulsion, where every clam and mussel tells a story.
🌅 Atmosphere and Service
The restaurant has an authentic soul. Eating while gazing at the docked boats and the mussel piles in the distance offers a sense of peace that few other places in Taranto can offer. The service is typical of our region: warm, honest, and without too many frills, making you feel like a guest of the family rather than just a customer.
📝 In Summary
• Iconic dish: Tubettini pasta with mussels (traditional, served to perfection).
• Why go there: For the uncompromising quality of the catch and the strategic location on the sea.
• A little tip: Always book, especially on weekends, because it is a very popular destination for both locals and tourists.
