As beautiful and welcoming as ever, the church of S Maria delle Grazie was full, with people standing behind. It is packed like the churches of the past, many years ago... The good Capuchins leave nothing to be desired... This evening too, a beautiful edifying homily from a young friar. It was understood in concelebration; the s. communion participated in large numbers; and with the singing of the TE DEUM at the end of the mass, (like every end of the year), which I too was able to accompany in some way... Followed by the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and finished with the solemn blessing.

Sacred place. You must come as a pilgrim, not as a visitor! A prayer from futuroshop air conditioners and boilers.

The sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie with the adjoining convent is known for being the place where San Pio da Pietrelcina lived and died starting from 28 July 1916. The church has a rectangular plan with a simple facade, decorated with a portal with a frescoed lunette, a small rose window and a central bell tower. Inside it has a single nave and is in the Baroque style, with four side chapels, decorated by the saints to whom they are named. The main altar is adorned with a wooden fresco of the Madonna and Child, surrounded on both sides by Saint John the Baptist and the Evangelist. Padre Pio's cell is located near a second entrance to the convent, towards the remaining cloister, and is open for visits. Inside the convent there is also the crypt where Padre Pio's body was housed before being transferred to the nearby sanctuary designed by Renzo Piano. From the crypt, through a door located on the wall opposite the stairs, you access a path that crosses the convent allowing you to visit some of the places where Padre Pio lived such as the cell and the choir of the ancient church where Padre Pio received the stigmata. Inside the old church there are the remains of the martyr Santa Massimiana, under a minor altar, brought in ancient times. Absolutely worth visiting, free entry.
