One of the most beautiful squares in Italy, with Bernini's tower that stands out on the square and the "curved" cathedral that envelops the square.
The frescoes of the buildings that surround the historic center are all restored and give the impression of truly living in the 1300s

It is one of the most beautiful Italian squares.
In Renaissance style, its construction, begun in 1492 and completed two years later, was commissioned by Ludovico il Moro and was intended to serve as an entrance to the castle, now transformed into a ducal palace.
Rectangular in shape, it is built on three sides, while it is closed on the fourth by the Cathedral of Sant'Ambrogio.
The square is surrounded by porticoes and arches resting on 84 serizzo columns.
Under the porticoes there are numerous shops once occupied by wool and silk merchants and today by bars and shops of various kinds.
The whole is decidedly elegant and harmonious and makes it a place of undoubted charm.

Truly a wonderful Renaissance square, the living room of the city! Climbing the Bramante tower you can admire it in all its beauty and entirety. Very suggestive also in the evening with all the splendid street lamps lit.

Piazza Ducale can certainly be counted among the most interesting squares in Italy and certainly also in Europe. The space, rectangular and of large dimensions, is in Renaissance style. The square commissioned by Ludovico il Moro at the end of the 1400s is concluded towards the east by a fourth side or by an extraordinary baroque scenographic backdrop: the concave facade of the cathedral church of S. Ambrogio. The other three sides are occupied by porticoed buildings and all the facades are splendidly decorated, recently restored.
The paving is in river pebbles with corselli in serizzo and granite slabs, redone in the nineteenth century in place of the original in brick.
On the roofs of the buildings around the square, on which stands the beautiful tower (visitable, with a magnificent view of the square, adjacent Castle and city), a magnificent collection of chimneys with extremely varied and artistic shapes further characterize this historic square.
The space is overall very elegant, a real large outdoor living room overlooked by bars, restaurants, shops. Definitely worth a visit.
