After prior reservation, we were seated immediately. While we were deciding on dishes, we were served a good sparkling wine. For starters, we ordered Saute di cozze. They were not very full, but tasty. Tagliolini busara and Seppie in umido with polenta were very good and went well with the house Tokaj. We were completely satisfied and the price was reasonable.

A small restaurant located in the old town of Trieste. Very friendly, attentive service and helpful staff. Delicious traditional seafood dishes and an excellent selection of wines. Definitely worth a try.

Searching the narrow streets of Trieste, we found this osteria. It had a few indoor seats, a warm, rustic atmosphere, and friendly staff who offered us a timed table even though we hadn't booked and it was 6:00 PM on a Saturday night. Since we wanted to eat and not linger because we were tired from the trip, we accepted, and they served us excellent dishes. We ordered two creamed cod dishes, each with two generous spoonfuls and plenty of crostini, a jota (a real discovery for us from Romagna), a plate of breaded cod that could have fed two people, and a fried loin steak stuffed with stringy cheese that looked like a baby elephant's ear. One liter of water and one liter of house white wine...for three of us, the bill was about a hundred euros, but it was all well spent.

One evening I was wandering around without having anything specific in mind and I found myself at this place. I ate really well, I found fabulous treatment and delicious food.

06/12/2025: A place not to be missed, absolutely!! Excellent
20/11/2025: On Saturday, November 15, 2025, a friend and I were looking for a typical Trieste place where we could eat a good hot ham sandwich and some other delicacies, as true Triestine people often do. Luckily, the 5 or 6 places we usually go to were all closed... it was 2:45 PM... I say fortunately because when we arrived at Barriera, we looked at each other and said together, "Let's go there," seeing everything open. We found all the staff professional, friendly, and welcoming, and they seated us with a smile. We immediately ordered 2 ham and eggplant sandwiches, which were amazing, 1 ham and gorgonzola, which was even better, 2 beers, and 300 grams of ham for home, since just the thought of having already finished it made your mouth water, and all at a very fair total price. We used to go to 5 or 6 places for years, now we'll only go to one place... "Salumeria a mano" Go there and you'll hit the mark. Congratulations to everyone Staff...Alessandro and Rea will be back to you very soon.

12/09/2025: The place is quaint, and you can eat outside in the courtyard, shaded by the trees. Service is fast, and the owners are attentive and courteous. The food is all authentic and high-quality; the cured meats and cheeses are excellent, as are the vegetables and crostini. The desserts are delicious. The prices are very fair. Definitely worth trying again. Reservations are recommended, as it's always crowded during opening hours.
26/08/2025: A wonderful experience, for the food (excellent quality cured meats, cheeses, bread, and desserts!), for the setting (the courtyard of a country house... like being with family!), for the punctual service (very fast, despite the many guests!), for the serene and joyful atmosphere that enriched our holiday! Thank you so much... I recommend everyone to try it!!!
