24/03/2024: A problem with my and Watson's gastronomic investigations is the scale of values ​​imposed by Google: for us a trattoria with correct proposals, with simple but genuine dishes and honest prices deserves 5 stars like a renowned restaurant in a 5 star hotel luxury of Stresa, but they are certainly not the same thing. Well, we need a reward system that takes into account these differences. Until then we will rate both Villa Crespi in Cannavacciuolo and Caccia Reale in Corso Risorgimento in Novara with 5 stars: a trattoria from times gone by, where the staff is at your service, but also becomes a friend to whom you can ask for advice, where at the table next to yours sits the entrepreneur from Brianza as well as the pensioner from the province and where you immediately exchange confidences that you would never dream of doing in a trendy restaurant in the center. Let's be clear though: the Royal Hunt is a tidy, clean, welcoming place, but simple both in terms of furnishings, as well as in the kitchen options as well as in the staff at the tables or in the owner. Here you will find the typical dishes of Novara and Piedmontese cuisine and in fact as a starter Watson and I had a mixed plate with duja salami, fidighina, donkey salami, various cold cuts and giardiniera. First of all, it was impossible not to order the Paniscia (but you could also choose the agnolotti del plin or the ravioli di magro). For the second course I continued with another typical dish from the Novara area: braised meat with polenta while Watson opted for a dish of veal with tuna sauce and potatoes. We concluded with 2 coffees while we dined with two bottles of Nebbiolo d'Alba 2021 from the Vignaioli di Treiso winery, all for around 50 euros each. With generous portions and wine at 20 euros per bottle it means spending 30 euros per person! So I think it's worth trying it then... judge for yourself!
