We enjoyed this small restaurant the most of all those at Villa D'Este. It is billed as a fusion of Italian and Japanese food which, on the surface, would seem to be an unholy alliance, but, peculiarly, it actually works well. The food was fresh and beautifully cooked and presented. The restaurant itself is next to the Grill so it is no surprise that the wine list is very similar. The waiting staff were helpful and attentive and the Somellier excellent, continuing the tradition of all Sommeliers at Villa D'Este. At the end of an excellent meal the chef came out and engaged us in an interesting discussion about the food, his career and life in general which made us feel very special. Surprisingly, given the brief and the big rep of the Veranda restaurant, I think that Platoon is the closest of the hotel's restaurants to Michelin Star standard, given the innovative menu and the lovely ambience along with the exceptional service. If you stay at Villa D'Este eat there, and if you are staying elsewhere in the locality it is worth the trip and expense to experience this charming restaurant.
