01/06/2026: We didn't stay at the hotel, we just had dinner. The dinner was perfect. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. We preferred to dine inside with the air conditioning after spending all day out in the sun. The menu doesn't have a huge selection of dishes, but in addition to the set menu, it offers a selection of appetizers, first courses, and second courses of the day. A good wine cellar with a wide range of Italian wines. Spaghetti with clams, octopus on a bed of mashed potatoes, and dessert with a bottle of white wine, Villa Antinori. Everything was delicious, the spaghetti perfect, and the octopus tender. Perfect service, Onder the waiter and his colleague were very kind. The final bill was reasonable, and they even gave us a small discount. A truly lovely evening.

13/06/2026: Materia is our first one-star Michelin in Italy. We enjoyed the entire dinner. While the website presents a minimalist concept for the interior, the food was surprisingly flavorful and well-executed. The staff was excellent, and we really appreciated that our dog was welcome. Furthermore, the sommelier was professional and helpful, working with us to find wines that paired perfectly with our meal and preferences. A very positive experience.

08/06/2026: Villa d’Este remains one of the great hotels of Europe, and the level of service is as polished and professional as ever. The gardens are immaculate, the setting on Lake Como is timeless, and the staff continue to deliver the kind of hospitality that made the property legendary. What has changed, at least from my perspective, is the atmosphere. I cannot help feeling that the experience is slowly drifting away from quiet, understated luxury and moving a little closer to a stage performance. There is more spectacle, more social media energy, and at times it feels as though some guests are visiting to be seen rather than simply to enjoy one of the world’s great hotels. Nothing about the quality has diminished. If anything, Villa d’Este still executes at an extraordinarily high level. I simply miss the slightly more discreet and effortless elegance that once defined the place for me. Perhaps this is the natural evolution of luxury hospitality in the age of Instagram. But for those who appreciate slow luxury, privacy, and the feeling that true refinement never needs to announce itself, there may be a quiet sense of nostalgia.

29/06/2026: We simply loved Bar Azzuro. We rented a villa a short distance below and chose to enjoy a couple of family dinners here versus the far more expensive Il Gato Nero and were rewarded with rooftop dining, friendly and prompt service and incredibly delicious pasta and pizza. The wine list is robust and well priced. This is a local neighborhood gathering spot and I believe both nights we were the only American tourists eating there. Highly recommend.

27/06/2026: The bar impresses with its typically Italian, uncomplicated charm. The fact that everything seems a bit improvised and drinks are served in cans only underscores its authenticity. The price-performance ratio is less than ideal. While the food was good, the prices, apart from the pizzas, are, in my opinion, a good 20-30% too high. One gets the impression that the restaurant's rustic image is being deliberately exploited for profit. My review is intended as a deliberate counterpoint to the many effusive reviews, where it seems that some guests are letting their holiday romanticism get the better of them. It's hard to imagine that the residents around the village square pay these prices on a daily basis. In short: If you want to eat here, you'll pay a noticeable premium for the authentic atmosphere and the chance to share a table with locals.

16/05/2026: Excellent location for reaching the events organized at Villa d'Este. The single room was very nice, a little small but adequate. As mentioned, the location was really convenient. It's a shame the breakfast service isn't included, but the pastry shop across the street makes up for it.

06/04/2026: We went for dinner. It was nice and warm, and we were able to sit outside on the terrace. A wonderful wisteria, with fairy lights. A very intimate atmosphere. Above all, for me, GF 2026 certified. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the staff is VERY friendly and attentive to any potential contamination. They give you all the necessary instructions.

06/04/2026: A spontaneous trip to Italy led us to this hotel. Thankfully, we were able to check in early, as the other hotels wouldn't allow check-ins until 2 or 3 pm. What can I say? The hotel is very nice, clean, and comfortable. At reception, you're greeted by Maurizio, and at this point, a big thank you to Maurizio, you're the best! A very nice hotel at a great price. I can highly recommend it.

06/07/2026: Far too expensive for what's on the plate. The €10 Coke is really overpriced. The €35 grilled swordfish was a ridiculously small portion, with a few slices of barely grilled or burnt potato swimming in a pool of tasteless oil, topped with a spoonful of overly salty tapenade. The food was nothing to write home about! Friendly staff, and the location is about 100 meters from the ferry dock.

11/05/2026: Anyone who gives this restaurant a bad review is because they don't know what to order and end up paying a lot for dishes that aren't typical of the lake. We shared an appetizer with excellent lake fish, ordered a risotto with Persian fish and another typical fish with butter and sage, a nice bottle of white wine (Pinot Grigio) from Lombardy, and our dinner was wonderful. I've lived in Italy for 13 years, I know that restaurants on Lake Como are expensive, but this one was worth every penny.
