I'm sad I didn't get to have the full experience of this place. We arrived in Bologna after 16 hours of traveling for a business trip, picked the first place we found on Google Maps that had good reviews. The server was very helpful in recommending starting dishes, as we were not super familiar with Italian language or dining customs. Everything that we had was impeccable. The atmosphere felt like eating in a family member's home during a holiday. We left after only one course because we were exhausted and had to get up early the next day, but if I ever go back, definitely want to try more!

For those who like to dine late, this is the ideal trattoria, open until late. A busy but welcoming place, with friendly and attentive staff. Excellent first courses, good meat. Since it was our first time, we didn't order appetizers, but we went for the first courses. Excellent value for money. Reservations are mandatory. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

For years, Mulino Bruciato has been a true landmark in the city of Bologna: a historic trattoria, known and appreciated by generations of Bolognese, that everyone has heard of at least once.
Inside, you're greeted by a warm and friendly atmosphere, enhanced by soft lighting that helps create an intimate and pleasant atmosphere. The rich appetizer buffet immediately catches your attention upon entry, offering an extraordinary variety of cured meats, pickles, cheeses, and gratinated vegetables, all of excellent quality.
There is no printed menu: the waiters, always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, will carefully explain the many dishes on offer. The menu is extensive and well-structured, with a wide variety of first courses, second courses, and desserts. Alongside traditional dishes, such as the classic balanzoni, you'll find more sophisticated and original options, such as tagliatelle with nettle and pecorino cheese or tricolor maccheroncini with battered vegetables.
A true institution of the house is the famous cotoletta alla bolognese: imposing in size and extraordinary in flavor. For meat lovers, the cold sliced beef also deserves a special mention, topped with Taggiasca olives, onion, parmesan cheese, and other expertly balanced combinations. Among the desserts, the panna cotta is simply excellent. To round off the meal, the tastings of the house bitters and liqueurs are a must and highly appreciated. Unbeatable value for money.
I highly recommend anyone who has never tried this historic trattoria on the outskirts of Bologna to give it a try: it will likely be the first of many visits. The restaurant is open until 3:00 a.m.; reservations are required and highly recommended.
