Il Grottino in Testaccio is a historic pizzeria renowned for its thin, crispy, and authentic Roman pizza. This simple and welcoming restaurant offers traditional Roman dishes with excellent value and high-quality ingredients. Service is fast and the staff friendly, although the place can get very busy, especially on weekends, with long waits that are always worth it for the delicious food.
The variety of pizzas is particularly popular, ranging from the classic Margherita to specialties like pizza with puntarelle and artichoke alla giudia, both highly appreciated. Even the fried foods, such as supplì, cod fillets, and zucchini flowers, are described as crispy and tasty. The authenticity of the restaurant is one of its most praised aspects, along with the friendliness of the staff, which contributes to the family atmosphere.

We were disappointed to discover it on our last evening in Rome. We paid 41 euros for two Spaghetti Pomodoro e Basilico (spaghetti with tomato sauce), one Buffalo e Pachino (buffalo cheese pizza), one Margarita pizza, four appetizers, and two drinks. The prices were very good, and the portions were satisfying. We loved the appetizer; they don't require reservations, and there's always a line out the door. We loved it. The delicious food is a small establishment known mostly to locals, and we wholeheartedly recommend it. No extra table fee was charged, and the drinks were billed at market prices. Unfortunately, these establishments are no longer available.

How can you not love this place? Growing up, I lived in nine countries, and I can tell you with certainty that the best pizza in the world is made here, at the grottino. Now I live in America, where pizza... well, let's forget it... every Sunday I meet up with some Italian friends of mine at one of the few places that sells Moretti beer. Our highlight of the week is watching Serie A and having a nice beer with friends. Last night, after eating the Diavola (10/10 thin, crispy, what a Neapolitan pizza), I noticed the plate they served it on. A vintage "Birra Moretti" plate, gorgeous. I asked the staff, half jokingly (but of course I wanted it, I was even willing to pay for it), the very dear Antonio went to ask the very kind Federico if they could give me this plate (art). My mother and I were shocked when they gave it to us (they even washed it). Now I'm off to Boston, I can't wait to show it to my friends this Sunday at our usual Moretti beer gathering! Thanks Antonio, Federico, and the whole place! Next year, sign it for me, errrr dish haha

Everything was very good. The atmosphere was typical of Rome's Testaccio area.
The service and prices were average.
The seating was narrow and cramped, as were the tables, which were all packed together.

The fried food was good, the pizzas were so burnt on the edges that we left half of them. The salmon tonnarelli was good, but with too much cream. The atmosphere was chaotic and noisy. The staff was friendly and helpful.

For me, the best! Excellent pizza, but also the rest... a bit of a wait for the table but it's worth it 😉
