Il Grappolo d'Oro In Frascati

I had lunch at Osteria Il Grappolo d'Oro on August 20th. From a culinary perspective, there was nothing to complain about: we ate well, with good-quality ingredients and well-prepared dishes. Unfortunately, however, the service definitely compromised the experience. I understand and appreciate an informal setting, especially in an osteria, but I believe there's a difference between informality and an attitude that can be rude toward customers. During lunch, the lady serving us openly complained about the amount of work she had to do and forgot some of our requests, including a Coca-Cola, which we had to remind her of when it didn't arrive. So far, forgetfulness can happen to anyone. What bothered me most, however, was the annoyed response I received when I politely asked if I could order two coffees: "If you wait, I'll bring them for you. I have to seat these people now," pointing to some customers who had just entered, "who need to eat." I certainly didn't expect the coffees to arrive immediately: a simple "Sure, I'll bring them to you as soon as I can" would have sufficed. The way the response was phrased, however, struck me as rude and inappropriate toward a customer. As I was leaving, I also overheard the same lady telling other customers she'd been working there for many years and remarking that, in any case, people come back because the food is good. That's probably true, and I agree that the food is worth it. Personally, however, when I go to a restaurant, I don't just pay for what's on my plate, but also to have a pleasant time and feel treated with courtesy. For this reason, despite having eaten well, I won't return. If I had been looking for this kind of treatment, I would have chosen a different setting and at least been prepared for it.

Coming here for the past 15 years has always been a pleasure. Stefano is incredibly kind in helping us with our wheelchair, and Isabella always makes us feel at home. Every now and then, I bring new customers, and they're all blown away by the food, especially the unbeatable porchetta. You can choose between Roman cuisine or the fraschetta menu, which we opted for this time: prosciutto crudo, sweet and spicy salami, cheeses, buffalo mozzarella, sweet and spicy olives, porchetta, and to finish, wine with typical Frascati donuts, which are truly delicious! You can eat inside or outside. I recommend making a reservation because it's always very popular. The prices are fair, and it even includes a chat and a laugh with the very kind and charming owner.

Finally, a real osteria where you can find traditional porchetta, good food, good wine, and old-fashioned service! We're from Rome and come to Frascati often. I think I've been to so many places, but I'd never experienced the authenticity of this place. Isabella, the true hostess, stopped by this evening with two children at nine o'clock, and she welcomed us like you've never seen anywhere else. We had appetizers, first courses, and the kids had truly exceptional meatballs. From now on, we'll never leave this wonderful place in the heart of Frascati. We'll recommend it to all our friends and family. Excellent food and very fair prices. Thank you, and see you soon!!!
