A restaurant that, for those who live here, has always been a point of reference and a meeting place. For me, it holds a special meaning: I've celebrated birthdays and anniversaries here, and spent many family dinners—moments I cherish forever. Il Cavallino is and remains a happy place, filled with laughter, music, conviviality, and the flavors that bear Giuseppina's signature: fragrant pizzas, carefully prepared dishes, and that authentic atmosphere that only she has created. 27/02/2025: Sono stato in questo posto consigliato da amici e devo dire che L unica cosa che mi è piaciuta la zuppa dell armatore che era veramente speciale. Per il resto prezzi non proprio da osteria, Fritto non croccante pieno di verdura. E poi ci hanno messi a sedere davanti la porta dove il cameriere passava continuamente senza mai richiuderla, il giorno dopo avevo il collo bloccato. Servizio piuttosto lento.
04/02/2025: Nel centro di Castiglione delle Pescaia, tra le viuzze che separano il mare dalle colline della Maremma, nella nostra Osteria si raccolgono le storie dei pescatori e si portano in cucina per raccontarle con gusto . Quella di Salvatore Basile è la storia di un cuoco che ha maturato il suo percorso in numerosi ristoranti proponendo sempre una cucina improntata sull’attenzione nella scelta degli ingredienti del territorio e delle tecniche di preparazione, unita alla ricerca sul gusto e sui gesti che raccontano di questa parte di costa Maremmana. Il suo obiettivo è portare in tavola l’italianità della cucina, l’autenticità di una materia prima fresca, pescata da pescherecci locali, da lavorare con semplicità per non contraffarne il gusto originario e l’essenza, senza fronzoli né mode, ma solo inseguendo la stagionalità e il gusto. rovarsi da Pane e Vino per lui è ricevere calore e accoglienza e sentirsi a proprio agio nel gustare piatti attentamente studiati e preparati con rigore, dal pane al crudo di pesce, le paste fresche fino al dessert, tutto rigorosamente home made. Un luogo che riflette nel gusto la bellezza di Castiglione della Pescaia, con la sua storia e il suo mare, ma anche la Maremma tutta, con i suoi colori e i suoi profumi unici. 15/09/2025: I always preface this by saying 1. I rate considering that the person I rate is putting in (presumably) their utmost effort. 2. My rating is 'relative' to the type of location/restaurant, etc. That is, there can be 5 stars for a campsite as well as for a ***** Superior hotel. Naturally, they have a different 'value'. That said... We wanted to go beyond the current 3.5 reviews, even though, to be honest, they're already a little suspicious (especially given the considerable number of reviews). But considering that our clear and simple goal was focused on a good pizza in a nice setting, we wanted to proceed. Given, basically, the advertised wood-fired oven and that this pizzeria appeared 'convenient' and charming, overlooking the harbor and with ready parking (I'm writing this in mid-September). Result: Simple/rustic setting... appreciable if you like. Without dwelling on some of the details, among which the white plastic chairs that no longer even have speakers stand out... the tablecloths🤦... Pizzas. More than decent. Thin dough that you may or may not like, as opposed to the "thick and fluffy" one. Negative notes. *A: "Have you booked?", a bit indignant upon arrival. Please note... with 80% of the tables empty at the time and remaining that way until we left, it seemed truly unwelcoming. *A final coffee that, if not the worst I've ever had, is certainly tops. Indescribable, unsuspecting. Like a second, maybe third, serving. * The final price for two pizzas + two medium beers + one water + one coffee was close to 50 euros... Not fair. Unacceptable: 6.50 euros for an ordinary medium beer... never seen that before. Undoubtedly a beautiful location, convenient, but never again.
18/08/2025: We ate at Foro last night and had a great time. A special mention for the spaghetti alla chitarra with seafood; they were absolutely AMAZING!
