Special praise goes to Massimo, the maître d', whose kindness, expertise, and attention to detail elevate the experience to a level few can match. To call his customer service "excellent" is an understatement. Always present, never intrusive, and capable of making each guest feel at home. Our recent visit to Duilio restaurant, with high expectations for the Innovation tasting menu, unfortunately turned out to be a profound disappointment. What should have been a surprising and memorable culinary experience turned into a gastronomic scam, light years away from what one would expect from a high-end tasting menu. The cuisine was simple, almost banal, lacking any distinctive or innovative elements that would justify the menu's name. Each dish fell short of creating the "wow" effect one seeks in such an experience. I can say without hesitation that this is the worst tasting menu I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't inherently "bad," but it lacked soul, research, and that spark that transforms a meal into an experience. If a restaurant doesn't have the dishes to provide an experience, I'd suggest not offering a tasting menu at all. The only positive aspect of the meal was the service. The wait staff was very good, attentive, and professional. I regretted having to communicate our dissatisfaction directly to the waiter, aware of his impeccable professionalism in a setting that didn't do him justice. In short, if you're looking for a culinary experience that justifies the cost and expectations of a tasting menu, Duilio, at least for the Innovation menu, is not the right choice.
