Legend has it that a place still exists in the heart of Modena, a tiny hideaway of culinary excellence where, upon entering, you're welcomed into one of the most authentic and traditional establishments. This small, intimate kingdom, a room with five or six tables, has been run dictatorially for the past 35 or 40 years solely by Signora Ada. In the morning, she goes to the Albinelli market to do the shopping, then cooks, serves, manages, etc. Just her and a unique passion. Exceptional dishes, always freshly made and never heavy. BUT THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR EVERYONE, BEWARE!!! There's a menu, but it usually directs you to the best of what the market has to offer daily, as she's the only one there, and therefore dictatorial. She'll make sexual jokes and thinly veiled innuendos that might make the uninitiated stiff. But that's part of the show and the convivial atmosphere that's created among the patrons. She's a unique character. Anyway, three appetizers: porchetta and snow peas, prosciutto and melon, cotechino and cabbage. Top. Tortelloni, and a main course of guinea fowl, shank, or whatever. House cakes, water, wine, nocino liqueur, and mokona coffee, or if you're among the last to arrive, go and drink it with her at the bar... €40. Excellent, light and not heavy, no less than the most prestigious restaurants in the city. A day out of the ordinary. Thank you, Ada, for your passion.

Lunch with friends, small but very characteristic place, the owner is truly an old-fashioned innkeeper... Little chatter and half à Seder.... Good food, good wine but without pretensions... Let's say there's always room for improvement!!!

Dinner with friends, stellar hospitality. The owner welcomes you as if you were in a private home. The food is extraordinary and she is attentive to the guests' needs.

I loved this place! it is different from most restaurants in that there is no menu and you eat what the owner suggests. I had delicious roast duck with very tasty potatoes, a glass of red wine, a bottle of water and the total was €35 which was a good price considering the high quality of the food. The taste and flavor was exceptional. The place is small but that doesn't matter because I loved the larger-than-life personality of the owner. She does every thing herself, and I loved her conversation. She talked to everyone. This is her place and she is definitely in charge. So you need to be in the mood for that. She is also very warm, kind and very sweet.

Mrs. Ada is one of a kind! She welcomes you into her kitchen and it's like being a guest in her home. I've never experienced an atmosphere like this in any restaurant. We'll definitely be back!

Wonderful experience: Sunday lunch spent at the most delicious and unique osteria I've ever tried. As soon as you enter, you're transported to the world of Ada, the owner, who will welcome and pamper you like a true hostess with the menu of the day. Between delicious dishes and conversation, you'll have a wonderful time of conviviality. Highly recommended if you're passing through Modena!
