We had a great meal on our last night in Sardinia at Hivaoa. The terrace dining is definitely tight - you will be sitting very close to your neighbors - but the atmosphere is lovely. Food was solid; not Michelin star but tasty and hearty.

What a great place. I have been fortunate enough to eat here many times over the years while racing in Porto Cervo. Anything from a quiet table for 2 to a big noisy party of sailors up to 20 people and they just get it right. The food is excellent, amazing choice which makes you suspicious it it will not be great but every time no matter how many of there we are we get great food in good time and brilliant service. The people who run the show are always there watching, listening to what is going on making sure everyone gets attention and they do it in a calm and friendly way. No shouting at staff no fuss. This year we ate there several times it is our restaurant of choice. We had eaten at what was one of our favourite restaurants, which will remain nameless, in a pretty old fishing village with super views etc. They have lost the plot, and our custom. Massively over priced and dull menu. Form over function and terrible value for money. The prices, the food quality and service at Hivaoa are very hard to beat. We might as well book there every night. We asked the manager /owner to recommend good local wines that he would drink at home for a big crew party of 20, we would need a lot of it. He came back with two excellent wines €30-32 each. The red was great. At the “other” restaurant we couldn’t buy a bottle at less than €130 and it was Pap. Well done Team Hivaoa you will see (a lot of) us next year. Thank you.

In the off-season, we were able to get in here without a reservation after a short wait, even with drinks included, and enjoy a delicious meal. Great service, a pleasant atmosphere, and reasonable prices.

Great service and delicious food. And even reasonably priced for Porto Cervo. The pizzas and chicken schnitzel were delicious. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We had the grigliata pesce (grilled seafood and vegetables) which included swordfish, shrimp, calamari, eggplant and zucchini) and the lasagna with meat sauce for lunch. Followed by an affogato that was enough to share between the two of us. Everything was absolutely fantastic and perfect at this restaurant… from start to finish. The food was incredibly fresh, prepared well, and had impeccable presentation. Ideal timing for the wait and in between courses, which I feel like it’s a bit rare in the area. So far most experiences have been a fairly lengthy process to get in and out of a restaurant. Masterful work, chef and staff! We left wowed at the experience here! The restaurant has a beautiful, simple interior, with plants inside which is very pleasant. Low noise and distractions, so it’s easy to communicate and hear each other. The staff was courteous and attentive. This spot seems to be remarkably underrated or under the radar for offering such an outstanding dining experience. Highly recommend having lunch or dinner here at least once - but you might end up eating all your meals here…
