Hemingway In Bassano del grappa

We had lunch at this restaurant as a couple with a baby. We had a first course (cacio e pepe) and a second course (baccalà alla vicentina). Both dishes were homemade and we enjoyed them. Existing reviews often mention the excellent welcome from the staff. Unfortunately, our experience was different, but it could be that we just happened to be there on a bad day. First, we couldn't use the garden because the stroller wouldn't fit. In the end, it was a good thing, because when it started raining, people outside realized the beautiful umbrellas weren't enough to shelter them. Some even had to leave after receiving their drinks because there wasn't even room left inside, and the staff wasn't very accommodating. Finally, they even turned some customers away rather rudely, saying there was no more room (which was true, but that doesn't justify the tone). The worst part of our experience was having to listen to the poor waiter being constantly and inappropriately scolded by his mother. The tension was palpable!

If you want excellent food and a warm welcome, then you should dine here. The gentleman who welcomes you has a special kindness that's hard to find these days. If I were a writer, I'd write a short story about this place. Everything was perfect. Thank you.

Ristorante Hemingway è un piccolo locale nel cuore di Bassano, con un giardino con un’atmosfera bohémien che regala tranquillità. Cucina casalinga, autentica e senza fronzoli e un servizio cordiale, disponibile ed accogliente. Ideale per chi cerca buon cibo e un ambiente rilassato, ricco di personalità. Sono sinceramente allibita da alcune recensioni negative lette e per fortuna non ho dato loro retta: la mia esperienza è stata esattamente l'opposto.

We went for lunch today with our two little dogs. Congratulations again to the cook. This is the third time we've been back, and we'll do it again. It feels like we're back to mum for lunch on Sunday. Thanks again.
