Excellent restaurant in the center of Merano, absolutely recommended

Right in the lively heart of Merano, where the streets hum with conversation and the afternoon sun glows warmly on the terraces, this restaurant sits comfortably at the centre of it all. Tables spill out onto the street, and it is not unusual to see people lingering over a glass of Limoncello spritz, watching the rhythm of the town unfold around them. Yet behind this vibrant setting lies something far deeper. This is a multi generation family restaurant, one that has quietly carried the traditions of South Tyrolean cooking forward for decades. The kind of place where recipes are not just written down but passed carefully from one pair of hands to the next. The menu celebrates the region with pride. Highlights include beautifully prepared venison dishes, rich and earthy, as well as comforting plates of Schlutzkrapfen, those delicate half moon pasta filled with spinach and ricotta. The goulash is another standout, slow cooked until the flavours deepen and settle into something wonderfully warming. Even the simpler dishes, like a perfectly crisp schnitzel, arrive with the quiet confidence of a kitchen that knows exactly what it is doing. There is a generosity to the cooking that feels unmistakably local. Plates are hearty, flavours honest, and everything carries the reassuring touch of tradition. But what truly makes the place special is the atmosphere. The family’s presence can be felt everywhere, from the warm welcome to the steady rhythm of the dining room. Nice and quaint place, good service, good food, but I can't give more than that to a place that charges €6 for a bottle of water.

The atmosphere is nice and welcoming. The food is excellent, but I recommend trying the canederli because they were delicious. Plus, the staff is really friendly. A special mention goes to the woman who served our table: she was helpful, honest, and friendly.

From the reviews, I was hoping for better. The atmosphere is so-so and the prices are high.

We found this restaurant by chance. I'll remember this Christmas Eve lunch with great fondness. I had to congratulate the waitress because everything was perfect. I saw other reviews where the only complaint was the limited selection of desserts; desserts are eaten at the pastry shop.
