We originally booked a family room at the Hotel Continental. My wife booked here because she liked the decor (fish themed). We were informed when we tried to check in that we were being moved to the Savoia. I asked if we could stay at the Continental and was informed it would have to be approved by a manager, which at the time, after traveling all morning with the family, seemed like a hassle.
The room at the Savoy had a pull out bed which was too short for my son and uncomfortable for both my son and daughter to share.
We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant on the 7th floor and had a bad experience. First off, the head waiter was rude and very short with us because we hadn't made a reservation despite the fact that the restaurant was practically empty. He seated us inside, although there were tables on the patio that were unoccupied for the entire duration of our time there. We really didn't mind sitting inside but if he wanted to, he could have easily moved us to the patio. Then, my wife and I both ordered a glass of local ligurian red wine and when I requested a second glass, the waitress (who seemed genuinely fearful of the head waiter) brought a different, already opened, bottle to our table. She poured me a glass, and from simply smelling it, I could tell the wine was bad. It tastes like vinegar . I told her the wine was bad, and asked for a different glass, preferably the same ligurian wine I had ordered earlier and she simple said no and took the glass away. I was still charged for the glass.
One good experience was at the upstairs bar, which is why I have given a 3 star review instead of a 2 star review. The bartender was great and we had a good experience there earlier in the day.
Overall, this was not a good experience and I would not return.

After a superb cooking class at the Oliveto Castle, we proceeded to our next planned stop, the "Grand Hotel Savoia" situated along the Italian Riviera. We recommend this hotel for your stay in the Riviera. We reserved two Executive Triple Rooms. One room includes a private balcony overlooking the Italian Riviera harbor in Genova, while both rooms sport flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi access, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities. Sitting areas, walk-in showers and soaking tubs were among the amenities of our luxurious suites. The Grand Hotel stands as a historical landmark in Genoa, Italy. Dating back 120 years, the Grand Hotel Savoia stands as one of Italy’s oldest hotels, its historical grandeur now restored by means of a comprehensive refurbishment. Since 1897, their Guest Book has chronicled the signatures of eminent figures from the worlds of politics, art, performance, and music in Europe, a quintessential Belle Époque establishment. The hotel is situated in the historic center, 500 feet from the main city bus station and within 2 miles of the Aquarium on the pier, John F. Kennedy Pier, Magazzini del Cotone, and the Fiera di Genova. A refined breakfast buffet was served each morning on the terrace of the upscale Tralalero Trattoria Genovese hotel restaurant. We concluded each day with wine, cocktails, and appetizers in the upscale lobby bar. The customer service we received from the valet, front desk, restaurant and bar staff during our family vacation was outstanding. Our stay at the hotel in this picturesque historic Italian Riviera city was truly remarkable. Bravo! Bellissima!

The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Set your expectations - this hotel is definitely NOT 5-star.
The service at reception is nonexistent. I.e no help with bags to the room, no greetings upon leaving or returning, no explanation of any hotel information, no apology for the broken spa, and no question about our stay once checking out. Pretty much felt invisible the whole stay.
The rooms are rundown and dark. We had instant regret booking this accommodation when entering the room.
The Jacuzzi on the top floor doesn’t work but is still advertised.
For the price, it is not good value. I’ve stayed at better 3-star accommodation with better service and rooms.
I think some of the other reviews must be part of a package deal or conference where they haven’t paid directly.
The good - the breakfast room is amazing, and the lady who manages this is great and a very attentive person.
Sorry for the bad review but it needed to be said.

I have been staying for 15 days now, good rooms and breakfast.
I didn't like the attention from the reception at night, I needed help and the 11pm employee told me he didn't understand my Spanish language, the truth is in a 5 star hotel we feel unprotected. Maybe it was the employee's problem.

Bellissimo ristorante in hotel storico. Ottimi piatti preparati con prodotti freschissimi. Anche il servizio è stato molto accurato. La prossima volta pranzareremo sulla terrazza panoramica.
