Our group had such a good experience here! The service was on point and the food was PHENOMENAL. From the fresh veggies to the perfectly seasoned tender meat. Highly recommend stopping at this spot.

A traditional place, the food was excellent and reasonably priced. I highly recommend it, and when I return to Rome I will definitely go back.

It was sensational! We were there from April 27th to May 1st. We ate at this incredible place for 3 days. Two dinners and one lunch. It wasn't a tourist trap! It was a positive experience. The owner and his family are unique, the joy of the place on Friday night was incredibly positive. I would return 300 times. Joy, good food and good times.

Family! Festive! Fun! The owners and staff bring such enthusiasm and infectious energy to the experience. The result? Smiles, laughter and “fun family dinner” togetherness. And of course, the food is like Nonna’s- satisfying, comforting and rich with flavor. Be prepared to leave with great memories and likely meeting new friends from around the world. Enjoy!

There may be better food in Rome, their may be better views in Rome, but I promise you this, you will never, ever forget Gallo Matto. I loved my evening there as "extended family" of Marco and his wife, and I would encourage you to go and experience the restaurant for yourself. The decorations in the restaurant were eclectic, and that's putting it mildly. Kind of like a schizophranic Willy Wonka on LSD who became a hoarder. I could go on and on. See the pics and videos you will understand. There was a basement level that might just have been more insanely decorated than the top level. I loved it. Marco and his family have owned Gallo Matto for almost 40 years. The place was packed when we arrived, people were lingering at the tables listening and participating with a talented piano player banging out tunes. From American and Italian classics to a song where he just grunted. There were sing-alongs where the whole restaurant joined in, people dancing and of course owner Marco doing bizarre activities. We finally got seated, directly next to the piano. The food at Marco's is good traditional Italian food. He has all the favorites and some different dishes too I suggest the whole roasted chicken. We had cocktails, three bottles of wine, and Limoncello, specifics on the evening may have dulled what I remember. At one point there was a cleaver and me try to chop off Marco's head. Wild and zany! Add this to your itinerary. It will be worth it. So much fun...I think!?!?!
