Foresteria S. Scolastica In Subiaco

The location is perfect to check on the most underrated site in all of Italy, the Sacro Speco monastero at the top of the hill. It was a nice morning walk up. That said the place needs a lot better management. The front desk guy bordered on surly and assigned us a tiny room in a construction zone that smelled terrible, like moldy linen. Once it was changed to a bigger room it was better. We got the breakfast/dinner option, which was very well priced but the dinner was almost inedibly bad. The “carbonara” was a sticky mess with grey lumps of guanciale or pancetta. The secondo was forgettable. The kitchen staff was very good and extremely polished and professional so the place has potential to be really good. Just get a good cook, come up with a sensible easy and repeatable dinner menu and focus on one block of aired out rooms with fresh linens and bright simple colors. The Sacro Speco monastery is one of the greatest sites in all of Italy and it looked like they were in the middle of renovation so the place has potential. It was certainly well priced

Clean and comfortable rooms, just a little small, large and convenient parking, good service: the lady who takes care of breakfasts and packed lunches is really kind and helpful.

We booked a lunch at the restaurant during the week. The rooms are simple, clean, and the tables are well-kept. The staff is friendly and helpful. The traditional dishes are well-prepared with quality ingredients. The prices are very reasonable. The bar, located on the ground floor, has a large outdoor terrace with tables. Parking is nearby.

An ideal place to relax, with a great view and beautiful spots for those who practice religion. There are too many curious tourists, with no space for spiritual retreats, obviously in a secluded atmosphere. But that's just my wish. The guesthouse and all the staff, whom I saw moving around in various roles, are very kind and courteous. I only had difficulty getting there because there was no shuttle since it was the holidays (April 25th), and with my 10kg child, especially the heat and tiredness from the journey, it was a real struggle.

It was a pleasant stay. The location is strategic for visiting the monasteries. A place rich in history and surrounded by lush greenery. The staff at the guesthouse were kind and welcoming. We will return. Gianluigi

My rating, of course, is based on the quality/price ratio: reasonable price, remarkable quality for the price. The rooms are simple and not large (perhaps there are a few extras, I'm referring to my double room for single use); clean, functional, and welcoming. The dinner was simple yet refined and delicious, with impeccable and extremely friendly table service. Breakfast was also very good. A totally positive experience.

The room was simple but fully equipped. The location of the monastery is wonderful, a peaceful oasis. I didn't use the breakfast or dinner service; I only stayed overnight, so I can't comment on the rest.

Excellent location for visiting the Monasteries, good cuisine

We just stayed at the Foresteria di Santa Scolastica, and it wasn't our first time. As always, the rooms were spotless, and the service was very courteous and friendly. I also recommend the restaurant, where the food is more than excellent and the portions are generous.

A wonderful experience. Peace, beauty, and kindness reign supreme! The food is excellent, and they also take great care of celiacs, so highly recommended.
