Eight Restaurant In Portofino

It's important to point out from the outset that the prices were high. If you go to places like this, you can't expect to pay the same as at your local pizzeria. That said, such a high price point demands appropriate standards. The food was certainly good quality, but neither the spaghetti with clams and bottarga nor the tuna tataki were exceptional. Two good fish dishes. Nothing more. The shrimp tartare was very good and fresh, but it seems like the bare minimum for a place like this. The wine (by the glass) was average, neither good nor bad. Terrible service: we had to ask for a second bottle of water because they didn't realize it was sold out; we waited 20 minutes just for popcorn with bottarga (which was meant to while away the time). With the restaurant almost half empty, we also waited a long time for the first and second courses. The bread basket arrived when we had finished lunch. The sgroppino is good, freshly prepared at your table, but since it's off-menu, the waiters aren't exactly good at explaining it if you don't know what it is. The only positives: the location—the Paraggi bay is always enchanting; the pet-friendly location (with a dog menu); and the fact that you can arrive at your leisure for lunch, as your table is reserved (we encountered a traffic jam and arrived an hour late).

Beautiful place...we stopped for 2 aperitifs (50 euros)...a little above average
