While staying in Ferrara, I wanted to try something typical of Ferrara, and ended up at Trattoria da Pippi, recommended directly by Pippi.
👉 Excellent choice.
Warm, welcoming atmosphere, the kind that makes you feel right at home.
The cuisine here is truly "homestyle," and you can taste it: in the flavors, the simplicity, and the confidence you feel when choosing the dishes.
I started with:
• gnocco fritto and gnocco grigliato → both excellent, like clouds
• superlative fried food, light, not at all heavy (a very rare thing)
Then:
• cappellacci di zucca al ragù rosso → delicious, perfect balance between sweet and savory, truly on point
Second course:
• mashed potatoes with salami → substantial dish, bold, beautifully present, but very satisfying

Positive experience, cappellacci with little pumpkin flavor, excellent lasagna, abundant grilled meat, but predominantly pancetta. Impeccable and fast service, 5 stars are not enough, the head waiter was super professional, as were the waitresses always attentive to our needs (we had a celiac person). The bill was a bit steep, where 1 liter of filtered water (not mineral) was €2 in slightly dated bottles, 1 carafe of cola €9 (the same price as the carafe of wine). The cashier was a bit careless when doing the bill (she had to do it twice with the cash register + once done previously on a sheet of paper).

A sure thing.
A restaurant that's a sure thing, ranging from traditional (Bolognese - Ferrara) to seafood.
Keeping things in order...
Excellent at crescentine (pinzini), baked as well as the usual fried dishes.
STARTERS:
TOP CRESCENTINE
Zunna pie: No, too watery, probably from the freezer
MAINS:
Lasagna: Good.
Tortellini: TOP.
Pumpkin tortelloni: Excellent (not too sugary), perfectly cooked and very generous.
Ricotta tortelloni: Good, but not up to the tortellini and pumpkin.
Fish risotto: NO, too watery and bland, perhaps a bit more seasoning...
Onion soup: Good, good, I would have used more Emmental and less onion, but good.
Mushroom crepes: Not bad, but not enough.
Gnocchi with fondue and pancetta: Very, very good.
MAIN COURSES:
Salama Buona
Donkey with polenta NO, although cooked well, bland and with little sauce.
Beef fillet: Good.
The fillet is also good.
Eel: Good, a good 8.
Grilled fish: We'd give it a 9.
Tagliata with balsamic vinegar: Good, but needs more convincing. More charred.
Braised beef, off the menu, excellent.
SIDE DISHES:
Excellent French fries
Fried zucchini: Very good, with the addition of salt.
DESSERTS:
Tiramisu is actually a good mascarpone.
Coffee cake: Good for coffee lovers, but for me, since I drink macchiato with sugar, it's too bitter.
Mascarpone: Good.
Parfait... Good
The panna cotta is good and plentiful.
The Tenerina is rather firm, not bad, please add more cream.
Good service.
Simple atmosphere, very clean bathrooms.
Parking is close by.
And reasonable prices!
I think they currently have a fixed-price crescentine evening on Thursdays.
P.S.: I imagine it's expensive, but I recommend changing chairs... If you have a bad back all day, they're not the best. 😬

An authentic family-run trattoria that's been around since the 1950s, just like the ones of yesteryear.
The pasta is homemade by the women, and the tagliata with truffle is excellent. They also serve eel, but you need to make a reservation because it takes an hour to cook. The waitress, Valentina, was very kind and attentive! Highly recommended!
