Da Enzo Al 29 In Roma

What a wonderful place! Incredibly delicious food, very polite waiters, and a pleasant atmosphere. The portions seemed very large, but that's a personal preference.

It's overly famous. The food isn't bad, but the place is quite spartan, and the food is just okay. I don't know why it's so famous.

We stopped for lunch on July 17, 2026. Pasta carbonara and pasta with oxtail stew were both very traditional and delicious. I would definitely return.

If you don't mind waiting, definitely worth the wait for the food. Definitely sit outside to enjoy the breeze when sun down. We waited about an hour to be seated, but we got drinks while waiting.

As much as I would like to keep this place to myself, the cat is already out of the bag. Originally recommended to me by a friend whose family is from and still resides in Roma. I have come back year after year to eat at this establishment. Most recently added one night in Rome while over that way just to enjoy their traditionally, authentically prepared Roman dishes. My personal recommendations, try the olive oil tasting - when in Rome. Fried artichoke. Amatriciana. Carbonara. Don't DARE leave without trying their tiramisu. No reservations. Go well before they close (they close in the afternoon for a few hours between lunch and dinner - keep that in mind), stand in line, order a drink, make some friends. You may end up sharing a table with some folks.

Da Enzo is undoubtedly one of Rome’s most famous trattorias, and it certainly has an authentic atmosphere. We waited around 45 minutes to get a table, which honestly wasn’t a problem since you can order drinks while you’re in line. The queue even becomes part of the experience. That said, such a long wait inevitably creates very high expectations. Unfortunately, for me, the food didn’t quite live up to the hype. The pasta dishes were good; solid, authentic Roman cooking, but they weren’t the unforgettable, “best I’ve ever had” experience I was expecting after standing in line for so long. In Rome, there are simply too many outstanding trattorias serving food of a similar standard without the wait. Another downside was the seating. The tables are placed extremely close together, leaving virtually no personal space. You can easily hear and follow the conversations of the people next to you throughout your meal, which made the experience feel less relaxed than we had hoped. Overall, I understand why Da Enzo is so popular, and I certainly don’t regret visiting. But if you’re deciding whether it’s worth queuing for 45 minutes or more, I personally don’t think the overall experience fully justifies the hype.

We were recommended this place by our host while staying in Rome. The reviews were mixed and having seen no option for reservations we prepared ourselves for a bit of a wait. We waited approx. 45-60 mins for a table, being offered to buy drinks in the queue. Once seated, as a party of two, we were unfortunate to wait further to be served as the larger tables seemed to be a priority. The pasta was good, but after so much wait it is hard to tell if it was the quality or just our starvation. The atmosphere was lively and the staff seemed nice.

Be prepared to wait in line, recommend getting there early (5:45 for 6:30 open) but they serve you drinks in line and it’s worth it for the Cacio e pepe
