Super location, very attentive service too. In short, food (given the price!!!): super spicy squid ink linguine (?!?), horse fillet with black garlic (a crumb) with a pumpkin flan, too bad it was only half, and then fregola (?!?) or similar, 10 grains on the plate..but why!?! Wide margin for improvement... I would focus on the taste and essentiality of the dishes Ps. The crumble is actually a kind of apple pie, here too a thousand things on the plate, but overall they lack balance

What can I say... I brought my boyfriend here for Valentine's Day, as a surprise. Right from the booking, which is made directly on their website, they were friendly and very helpful, even advising me, upon my request, of a tag to put on the dessert with a phrase of my choice (a tag which they kindly offered me despite it having a small additional cost). From the appetizer to the dessert everything was perfect: the maitre d' and the waiters who served us were very professional and attentive; the food, well... Not being used to restaurants of this caliber, I found it practically heaven (especially the fresh egg tagliolini with black truffle, which was exquisite; the cod, I don't think I've ever eaten so good, practically melted in my mouth), with completely reasonable portions, so much so that at the end of dinner we were really full. Let's talk about the location: for Valentine's Day, the restaurant was decorated with many heart-shaped balloons, live music and many other small details which, together, formed a decidedly romantic setting. The site practically hugs the lake, the view was obviously phenomenal, made even more intense by the glass wall from which you could admire everything. Their wine, a Chardonnay, was delicate and gentle on the palate, no acidic notes, no overpowering flavour, on the contrary: it accompanied the food perfectly. The menu booked for the occasion cost €130 per person, nothing compared to what we ate, drank and the service offered. Quality comes at a price. For those who have complained about the prices, there are always all-you-can-eat restaurants, trattorias and fast food outlets (be careful, I frequent them too, without taking anything away from these places), you certainly cannot expect to pay 30 euros each for a place overlooking the lake, with a certain service and with a certain menu. Having said that, I thank all the staff at Crotto dei Platani for making my Valentine's Day gift perfect. We will definitely see each other again.

Beautiful place by the lake with an amazing view and history, the reason I won’t give it 5 stars is because I’ve ordered the fish (39 Euros dish ) and it was super over cooked and dry so I couldn’t eat it and that changed completely my experience , I know this can happen but usually in places like this besides apologies you get at least the desert on the house but they didn’t, my girlfriend’s dish was good and the antipasti was amazing

È la quarta volta che torniamo in questo ristorante, ed ogni volta si conferma eccellente. La location è semplicemente uno spettacolo, soprattutto con le decorazioni e le luci del periodo natalizio. Abbiamo cenato in una sala affacciata sul lago, ed anche se eravamo al chiuso abbiamo avvertito comunque la magia del luogo. Le portate squisite, e assolutamente soddisfacenti nelle porzioni (non di tratta di un "gourmet"). Il personale estremamente attento alla clientela, soprattutto nella scelta dei vini da abbinare ai piatti scelti. Il prezzo è in linea con i "competitor" che offrono la vista lago, ma ne vale assolutamente la pena.

La grolla Menaggio

16/03/2025: Discover a hidden treasure of a restaurant in Menaggio! Everybody congregates in the Piazza of Menaggio, but that is not where you should look for an outstanding restaurant. While the main square of Menaggio is very crowded, I recommend you take a seven minute stroll along the lake by the Grand Hotel Victoria and toward the Minigolf. Somewhat hidden behind the Minigolf is the restaurant La Grolla that offers lunch and dinner during the summer season (April to beginning of November). The view of the lake from the outdoor garden section of La Grolla is unique with the Alps in the north and Varenna and Bellagio across the lake. - Many tables outside of the enclosed restaurant are right at the lake. Since my first review La Grolla has changed in a couple of good ways: First, before the 2024 season the restaurant went through an extensive refinishing process: the old bathroom was gutted and replaced with two modern bathrooms: One simple bathroom with a sink. On of the bathrooms is equipped for handicapped patrons. Visitors with babies will find a changing table. Also, the dining area in the building has been refinished into an open area. On three sides large windows and glass doors let diners enjoy the view of the lake and mountains of the area. The other major change is a new head of the kitchen. Now Giuseppe Odda runs the show, offering a nice choice of appetizers, salads, first and main courses, as well as desserts (s. photos below). Both my visitors and I have found that just one appetizer or a first or main course are sufficient by themselves as a meal but I'm not a growing teenager. Pizza has been eliminated from the menu. Waiting staff has always been attentive and helpful. The menu features a large variety of fish dishes. Fregola, a Sardinian dish featuring a variety of seafood (shellfish, shrimps, a whole crab) on a bed of special pasta has become a favorite among my guests at La Grolla. Other dishes are on the menu, with Sea Bass, Turbot, even Lobster, some with meat. If you wish to eat a plain dish of pasta with a tomato sauce you can just ask for that. It isn't on the menu but some of my guests were asking for it and the kitchen obliged. (Be patient if the restaurant is very crowded if you ask for something that is not on the menu.) In my experience - and I've been a frequent visitor of La Grolla over the years - has been that special preferences due to allergies have been complied with graciously. While I usually don't drink wine, my guests have always been very happy with the selection of the wines. Wine is offered by the bottle or by the glass. Little secret: The bread offered by La Grolla comes in small round pieces with a soft part inside and a crunchy crust. Ends of the long loaves aren't normally served. My wife and I love bread crusts; hence I requested to be served just ends of loaves. I can't wait to return to La Grolla!

Mientras que la plaza principal de Menaggio está muy concurrida, le recomiendo dar un paseo de siete minutos a lo largo del lago por el Grand Hotel Victoria y hacia el Minigolf. Algo escondido detrás del Minigolf se encuentra el restaurante La Grolla que ofrece almuerzos y cenas durante la temporada de verano (abril a principios de noviembre). La vista del lago desde la sección de jardín al aire libre de La Grolla es única con los Alpes en el norte y Varenna y Bellagio al otro lado del lago. - Muchas mesas fuera del restaurante cerrado están justo en el lago. Desde mi primera opinión La Grolla ha cambiado en un par de buenas maneras: En primer lugar, antes de la temporada 2024 el restaurante pasó por un extenso proceso de remodelación: el antiguo baño fue destripado y reemplazado por dos baños modernos: Un baño sencillo con lavabo. Uno de los baños está equipado para los clientes discapacitados. Los visitantes con bebés encontrarán un cambiador. Además, el comedor del edificio ha sido remodelado en un área abierta. En tres lados grandes ventanales y puertas de cristal permiten a los comensales disfrutar de la vista del lago y las montañas de la zona. El otro cambio importante es un nuevo jefe de la cocina. Ahora Giuseppe Odda dirige el espectáculo, ofreciendo una buena selección de aperitivos, ensaladas, primeros y platos principales, así como postres (fotos abajo). Tanto mis visitantes como yo hemos descubierto que solo un aperitivo o un primer plato o plato principal son suficientes por sí mismos como comida, pero no soy un adolescente en crecimiento. La pizza ha sido eliminada del menú. El personal de camarera siempre ha sido atento y servicial. El menú ofrece una gran variedad de platos de pescado. Fregola, un plato sardo con una variedad de mariscos (mariscos, camarones, un cangrejo entero) en una cama de pasta especial se ha convertido en uno de mis invitados favoritos en La Grolla. Otros platos están en el menú, con lubina, Turbot, incluso langosta, algunos con carne. Si desea comer un plato de pasta con salsa de tomate, puede pedirlo. No está en el menú, pero algunos de mis invitados lo estaban pidiendo y la cocina obligada. (Ten paciencia si el restaurante está muy lleno si pides algo que no está en el menú. ) En mi experiencia -y he sido un visitante frecuente de La Grolla a lo largo de los años- ha sido que las preferencias especiales debido a las alergias se han cumplido amablemente. Aunque normalmente no bebo vino, mis invitados siempre han estado muy contentos con la selección de los vinos. El vino se ofrece por botella o por copa. Pequeño secreto: El pan que ofrece La Grolla viene en pequeños trozos redondos con una parte suave en su interior y una corteza crujiente. Los extremos de los panes largos normalmente no se sirven. A mi esposa y a mí nos encantan las costras de pan; por eso solicité que me sirvieran solo extremos de panes.
