Era da tempo che non andavo a Formia a trovare degli amici. Dopo una piacevole giornata di mare abbiamo deciso di andare in questo locale dove ero stato in precedenza, scelta molto azzeccata pesce ottimo.

Tonight August 27th to celebrate my birthday we went to this renowned restaurant in Formia. Pleasant location, very kind and polite staff, normal food... so let's get to the point: we ordered cooked appetizers including tuna tartare with a slice of radish, peppers with squid, grilled octopus with potatoes, marinated anchovies, razor clams , mussel soutè for 2 people. A bottle of Prosecco and spaghetti with sea urchins again for 2. The spaghetti was a disappointment... also confirmed by the chef, who told us that the sea urchins were few for 2 people. To make up for it they offered us a sorbet each and a slice of dessert to blow out the candle... attention that was appreciated... in my opinion the location also needs to be redone... no big deal.... I thought it was of a higher standard... when it came to the bill they told us that they wouldn't count the 2 first courses, since they hadn't been to our liking. The bill they presented to us was 158 euros, practically 80 euros each just for the appetizers and a bottle of prosecco and water and perhaps a small glass of bitters. Frankly it seems a bit excessive to me...

As soon as we arrived, the owner approached us and asked us what we wanted to eat: we replied that we would have ordered a starter and a second course; he tells us "then I'll bring you a starter and for the second course I have a nice sea bream caught today". We accept the proposal. Result: total of 200 euros for two (100 euros for starter and 90 euros for sea bream). Absurd experience began to arrive various portions of appetizer but all tiny: 4 marinated anchovies he charged 17 euros, the mussels were ALL empty and also around 17-18 euros, 4 meatballs 17 euros. On the other hand, the waiters were very kind. The price was absolutely out of the market, perhaps they had to compensate for the evening given that there were only 4 seated tables?
Among other things, there is another Chinappi in Formia, Michele Chinappi, which is where we wanted to go and which had been recommended to us, but unfortunately we made a mistake in booking.
Edit (18/08): Mr. Stefano Chinappi, after the review, contacted me: he invited me and my girlfriend to his restaurant and apologized for what happened, expressing his willingness to remedy what happened. Yesterday (Saturday 17/08) he had the thought of writing to me again to invite me to go to dinner with him, but unfortunately I was no longer in the area. He then had the foresight to reimburse me for all the starters (100 euros).
Errors/mistakes can happen (similar events have happened to me other times), but this type of attention to the customer is certainly to be appreciated and, at least personally, no restaurateur has ever been so present after paying the bill and has ever shown this. kind of attention.
We will definitely return when we are in the area!

Buonissima cena di pesce con un atmosfera piacevole e romantica, con tavoli all'aperto in mezzo al giardino ben curato. Parcheggio ampio, ottimo servizio e ingredienti freschi e di qualità! Consigliatissimo soprattutto lo spaghetto quadrato

This morning Mr. Chinappi did as stated. He resolved the issue by refunding as stated and personally apologizing for what happened. I therefore find it right to thank him publicly for the professionalism demonstrated.
You can certainly make a mistake but admitting it and making amends by putting your face to it personally I think it is a demonstration of humility!

Excellent experience during these holiday days. The environment is already very welcoming right from the entrance, then we had dinner in the garden and we had a very good time. I recommend their raw meats and the square spaghetti with prawns, but the real gem is the bread. A really nice restaurant, very good!
