Cavallino Bianco In Bolzano

Loved the food and the old time charm here but the service was quite gruff. Our waiter brought us one entree, then our side a few minutes later. When we asked about the second entree (goulash) he huffed and rolled his eyes. It eventually came but we shouldn’t have had to ask.

I stumbled upon it by chance while strolling through the streets of the city center, and it was a great discovery. The atmosphere is welcoming and the menu is varied, featuring traditional dishes. I ordered onion soup and goulash with polenta, both of which were delicately flavored and the meat was perfectly cooked. I'll definitely be back.

We stayed at the Parkhotel Mondschein next door to this traditional Italian restaurant. We were in Italy for the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo. We did not want to try tourist food, we wanted authentic Italian cuisine. Wandering around the streets of Bolzano, a local pointed us to this restaurant, where he promised both authentic local food and modest prices. Though we had to wait a considerable time to be seated for lunch on a weekday, the service was overall very good. We do not speak Italian but the wait staff were able to communicate with us in English. We ordered the risotto, spinach and ricotta dumplings, and apple strudel for dessert. Both the risotto and the dumplings were delicious. We also had a bottle of Italian red wine, Lagrein, which we greatly enjoyed (and which, we believe, was from the local region of Italy). The traditional decor added to our enjoyment, that we were experiencing a genuine Italian dining experience. Prices were moderate, as we had been told to expect.

Very good food, quiet place, always very crowded but not by annoying people

Let's say the menu is a bit sparse, but the dishes are exceptionally good, the flavor, the presentation, and the service. The ambiance could be revisited.
