Castle of Torrechiara In Langhirano

Castello di Torrechiara is incredible. Built in the 1400s by Pier Maria Rossi as both a fortress and a love story for Bianca Pellegrini, it has been beautifully preserved. Walking through the frescoed halls and the famous Golden Chamber is a real highlight. The tour lasts about 45 minutes to an hour which is just the right amount of time to take it all in. What makes the visit even better is the small village that sits right on the castle property up the hill. There is a restaurant, wine tasting, and a few places to relax, and it feels like stepping back into another time. The combination of the castle and the little hamlet makes this well worth the drive from Parma and a perfect way to spend part of the day.

I visited the castle on Saturday at 2:00 PM and made an appointment for 12:30 PM via WhatsApp, using a number I got online. I could also have chosen to have lunch with them, featuring traditional products. The organization is thorough and fast. The tour lasts about an hour and you see the entire castle inside. Price: €8 + €5 for the guide (who is well worth it!). There are many rooms, and there's no furniture. Beautiful views.

The village and, above all, the well-preserved castle, which are worth a visit.

An excellently preserved castle, built between 1448 and 1460, commissioned by Pier Maria Rossi, also known as the Magnificent. The fortress dominates the village of Torrechiara, has three rings of walls, and four corner towers defending the castle. The towers are known as Leone, Giglio, San Nicomede, and Camera d'Oro. From 1500, the fortress was also used as the residence of Rossi, who then left the castle to his son Guido upon his death. After him, it passed to other families and nobles of the time until it was purchased by the state in 1912. I recommend a guided tour; it's very informative and will reveal the entire history of the castle and its owners.

A beautiful castle with a splendid view and a very romantic village. A great stop for an aperitif or dinner.

A quaint castle, very well-maintained and spacious. Be careful with the prices; it says that for those aged 18 to 25, the ticket costs €2, but if you're 25, the ticket is actually €8!! The ticket agent was very rude and unsympathetic.

Beautiful, enormous castle on the hills of Parma. Externally, it's enormous and truly beautiful. It's a shame that when we were there, many things were under renovation and we didn't get to see it properly.
