Here we finally ate the delicious pistachio tartufo. We'd tried several places in Tropea and Scalea, but were very disappointed. I also recommend the cheese platter with bergamot honey.

Such a cozy place with a really warm, friendly staff. They serve local specialties that give the restaurant its own charm. Definitely a spot I’d recommend to anyone looking for an authentic experience. It’s truly on another level compared to a few other restaurants nearby that we also tried.

We had a great time. The place is small, with outdoor tables overlooking the main street, which is full of cute cafes and shops, so it's a busy area. We came for a light meal, and despite it being quite busy, they served us promptly, were kind, and attentive to our requests. The platters were well-presented, featuring a variety of high-quality local products; the bergamot honey was amazing. The price was fair: two platters, drinks, and bread for €37.

When in Calabria, you go to Scilla. When in Scilla, you go to Chianalea. And when in Chianalea – it has to be Casa Vela! The snacks here are just perfect: excellent bruschetta with tuna and anchovies, platters full of local treats like cheeses, local meats, nduja, and the famous Tropea red onion jam. The Aperol Spritz was spot on too. Tables are set along a charming little street in the old fishing district, which makes it such a lovely spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy an aperitivo. Highly recommended for a quick break with great flavors and atmosphere!

I found it very good, with a distinctive menu and a very good and appetizing tasting menu! A great option since there's not much else nearby. The staff is friendly and courteous (obviously Argentinian 🫶🏻), very quiet, and the cocktails are good. Of course, I always go back.

20/10/2025: Good morning, Mr. Elio, I'd like to publicly reiterate my/our compliments for the dinner you brought us home on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Everything was delicious. You put a lot of effort into your work, and we were all very satisfied. Congratulations again, your restaurant will be my first stop as soon as I return to Gioiosa. Wonderful location! In the heart of Gioiosa! Everything was well-curated, down to the smallest detail! A true Gioiosan excellence! EXCELLENT food!
10/10/2025: This was close to where I was staying, so we went twice. The food was excellent. The new owners have redone the place and the appearance is very pleasing. There is almost always a party or wedding on weekends, which adds to the festive atmosphere. I had the seafood, and the pizza. Both were done to perfection.
