The nice weather is returning, and Casa Clara is once again a neighborhood favorite. The aperitivo is generous, and the staff is super friendly. I honestly don't understand the negative reviews. It has a covered area in case of rain, and it overlooks a promenade with benches. In an area like ours, finding a place like this is a real treat. I miss it when it's closed during the colder months!

I was there a few days ago with friends; we had gelato, granita, and then a drink. We ate in the garden, where there are benches because the tables are reserved for those who order ice cream, which we didn't want; we like to eat it in a cone.
Spurred by the discussions and articles in newspapers and on social media about the previous owner (we're also local), we went to this new gelateria, which exudes Sicilian style from the decor and the images. We expected to find good gelato, but above all, a superb granita with brioche and cannoli, but instead...
My gelato was mediocre: the hazelnut had a milky/creamy flavor that was too strong compared to the original hazelnut flavor. The stracciatella, ditto, had little pieces of ice in it. My friends also didn't remember the ice cream...
The granita was runny, a classic lemon granita, not exceptional. I expected it to be creamy, but it wouldn't have been possible to eat it with the brioche (which I expected to find artisanal, but it was the packaged kind you find everywhere, and we refused to buy it). And finally, the coffee wasn't boiling hot, and I wonder how that's possible, given that I ordered it at the counter and drank it right away when it was served.
The 4 stars are due to:
Positives
A) The beauty of the location, definitely one of the most beautiful ice cream shops I've ever been to, with a wonderful garden and lots of tables, and another with plenty of benches.
B) The kindness and professionalism of the sales assistants. Those two girls, one with blue hair and the other short, boosted the review by 2 stars. Their friendliness and smiles made us serve quickly, even though there was a bit of a line.
C) Cleanliness: both the dining room and the garden, but especially the bathroom, were clean. The bathroom, which we were able to use despite the place being fairly crowded (we went early in the evening, around 7 pm), was clean, which is definitely a plus.
D) Parking is a significant issue; there's a large parking lot with a fountain next to the gelateria.
Negatives
A) Mediocre gelato. I'm not an expert, but I'm a regular gelato consumer; I didn't like it.
B) The coffee wasn't hot, even though it was made and drunk right away (and I couldn't explain it).
C) Granita in a Sicilian place is similar to the countless liquid or semi-liquid granitas you find everywhere. I expected a creamy granita in a Sicilian gelateria, like they eat in the region they represent. Like going to a Roman trattoria and eating carbonara made with pancetta and parmesan instead of guanciale and pecorino... I mean, no, that's not good, I make it at home like this. You have to be original and respect the place you represent.
Neutral side
A) I've never seen snail sauce for sale. Honestly, I would have expected, in a Sicilian restaurant, to find regional products like Modica chocolate, a passito, or other products, but snails are probably a widely consumed product in Sicily...
B) We actually went to this Sicilian ice cream shop because my partner is pregnant and wanted a Sicilian cannoli... They don't sell cannoli, but they weren't looking for the nun's breasts, but for a simple cannoli that you can find in many pastry shops but are almost always found in Sicilian ice cream shops, but that's okay.
C) I expected to find brioche cu tuppo frasca and artisanal, but they do have packaged ones. Sorry.
These neutral points didn't influence the rating.
We'll be back for an aperitif and to enjoy the garden.

A true gem in the neighborhood. The new management is even better than the previous one. Don't be afraid to return, you certainly won't be disappointed. The same quality products, but with even friendlier and more welcoming service.
Thanks to Clara's entire team, this has become a regular stop for our aperitivos.
