The Pozzillo Tower, without its pistil, is a coastal defense tower that was part of Sicily's coastal tower system. It is located in the "Puzziddu" area, right at the highway junction for the Falcone e Borsellino Airport at Punta Raisi in the province of Palermo, within the municipality of Cinisi. It is state property and is easily accessible, with free access. Construction began in the first half of the 17th century, as it was not surveyed in 1578 by royal architect Tiburzio Spannocchi during his survey. Even at the time of Camillo Camilliani's survey in 1584, it still did not appear to have been built, despite his finding that the cove in front of it could accommodate 25 galleys: "there could fit 25 galleys." In 1625, the tower was not yet completed, although the records of the Deputation of the Kingdom of Sicily already listed its guardians and "torrari." Again from the records of the Deputation of the Kingdom of Sicily, in 1691 we learn that it had been entrusted to the Prince of Carini and that the garrison consisted of three men in total, including the artilleryman. From 1714 to 1717, the same records show that the armament consisted of: 1 bronze cannon with a wheeled carriage; 2 mortars; 6 arquebuses; 1 bronze culverin (known as a "masculo" or "mascolo"); 5 halberds; 28 cannonballs. In 1811, it is mentioned because its garrison was arrested for cowardice in the face of the enemy after failing to intervene to assist an American vessel attacked by pirates. The tower is mentioned in 1823 in the official cartography of the Bourbon army, but under the name of "torre nuova" (new tower). In 1867, it was included in the list of military structures to be decommissioned. It is currently unused and is in fair condition following restoration work beginning in 1970. It somewhat reflects the Camillian style. Today, an opening on the ground floor, located above the former cistern, leads to the first floor, which consists of three rectangular rooms. The largest, the one facing the land, is approximately 8 meters high on the longest side. The vault is barrel-vaulted, as is the custom, and approximately 5 meters high. A fireplace is located on the right wall, and a built-in cupboard on the left. The central wall contains a well that allowed water to be drawn from the cistern below. A stone staircase consisting of two ramps, set into the exterior southeast wall, leads to the roof. The terrace parapet was restored during restoration work in the last century.

We visited this beach on a Thursday in early August. There's a small parking lot, but it fills up quickly; we easily left our car along the road. The first beach you come to is the one overlooking the tower, where you can also find lounge chairs and umbrellas (for a fee). Walking to the left, there are two other smaller but quieter beaches. To get there, you have to climb over a few rocks, but it's not too difficult. The sea is spectacular, clean and clear, the water cool and calm, and it's a pleasure to be there. The tower adds even more character to this beautiful beach, which I recommend you visit.

A tower with benches to enjoy the sea and sunset. Several access points to the sea include small sandy coves.

The place is very nice and clean. I have to say that the bathroom is inside the room, so there's no privacy, but other than that, it's great. It's a clean place, and the mattress, for me, is comfortable.

Torre Pozzillo is a gem for those seeking an intimate retreat where nature, the sea, and modern comforts blend together for a unique experience. Ideal for couples, small groups of friends, or families with older children (there are safe stairs and handrails), the property offers all the ingredients for a rejuvenating vacation, away from the hustle and bustle yet just steps from the beauty of the coastline. Recommendation: 9.5/10 – the only small limitation is the internet connection, but for those who truly want to unplug, it's a plus!

Caffe del Golfo

12/06/2025: We eat good ice cream there, it's a shame the owner isn't more smiley, or even chatty.
31/05/2025: Perfect restaurant with lots of food, an attractive menu if you want to taste as many local products as possible.

Fud Bottega Sicula

02/11/2025: The best sandwich of all. I had the biutiful with porchetta, pan-fried vegetables, and olive pâté. 🔝 the fries with provola and pancetta. The bread was excellent, as was everything else. The vegan cake with cream was delicious. It's not the first time, and it's always been confirmed for the high level of quality products. Excellent service. We were passing through Sicily, but since we live in Parma, we'll come visit you in Milan soon 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
28/10/2025: FUD Bottega Sicula offers a variety of sandwiches, burgers, focaccias, and pizzas made with high-quality Sicilian ingredients. The restaurant is well-decorated and bright, with seating available inside, at the counter, or outside. My experience was positive, but there were some flaws with some dishes. Le Bec potetos cis: I found the potatoes floury, not crispy, and too salty; the bacon was already salty. Cresi ors (horsemeatballs): The bread was good, but the meatballs were a bit dry, with only the onion providing flavor. The horsemeat is very lean, and needed more seasoning. Baffalo burger: The burger was average, with the onion flavor and especially the barbecue sauce prevailing. The bread was a bit too crunchy, and the bottom was really tough. Parmigiana burger: It was scorching hot, with the eggplant slightly raw, but very rich in seasoning. Average service and perhaps slightly high prices for starters.
