That is a pretty sight at sunset and very close to the airport. If you still have time until your flight is leaving.

The Pozzillo Tower, without its pistil, is a coastal defense tower that was part of Sicily's coastal tower system. It is located in the "Puzziddu" area, right at the highway junction for the Falcone e Borsellino Airport at Punta Raisi in the province of Palermo, within the municipality of Cinisi. It is state property and is easily accessible, with free access. Construction began in the first half of the 17th century, as it was not surveyed in 1578 by royal architect Tiburzio Spannocchi during his survey. Even at the time of Camillo Camilliani's survey in 1584, it still did not appear to have been built, despite his finding that the cove in front of it could accommodate 25 galleys: "there could fit 25 galleys." In 1625, the tower was not yet completed, although the records of the Deputation of the Kingdom of Sicily already listed its guardians and "torrari." Again from the records of the Deputation of the Kingdom of Sicily, in 1691 we learn that it had been entrusted to the Prince of Carini and that the garrison consisted of three men in total, including the artilleryman. From 1714 to 1717, the same records show that the armament consisted of: 1 bronze cannon with a wheeled carriage; 2 mortars; 6 arquebuses; 1 bronze culverin (known as a "masculo" or "mascolo"); 5 halberds; 28 cannonballs. In 1811, it is mentioned because its garrison was arrested for cowardice in the face of the enemy after failing to intervene to assist an American vessel attacked by pirates. The tower is mentioned in 1823 in the official cartography of the Bourbon army, but under the name of "torre nuova" (new tower). In 1867, it was included in the list of military structures to be decommissioned. It is currently unused and is in fair condition following restoration work beginning in 1970. It somewhat reflects the Camillian style. Today, an opening on the ground floor, located above the former cistern, leads to the first floor, which consists of three rectangular rooms. The largest, the one facing the land, is approximately 8 meters high on the longest side. The vault is barrel-vaulted, as is the custom, and approximately 5 meters high. A fireplace is located on the right wall, and a built-in cupboard on the left. The central wall contains a well that allowed water to be drawn from the cistern below. A stone staircase consisting of two ramps, set into the exterior southeast wall, leads to the roof. The terrace parapet was restored during restoration work in the last century.

I've been there twice this year. There are some small coves nearby where you can swim, and it's very close to Punta Raisi-Falcone Airport (Palermo). The place is quiet and has great views.

A coastline with small coves, Torre Pozzillo (a 16th-century watchtower, part of Sicily's coastal defense system, built to guard the coast from pirate raids), and a crystal-clear sea. There are no facilities, but in the summer season, a swim can be an unforgettable experience.

We visited this beach on a Thursday in early August. There's a small parking lot, but it fills up quickly; we easily left our car along the road. The first beach you come to is the one overlooking the tower, where you can also find lounge chairs and umbrellas (for a fee). Walking to the left, there are two other smaller but quieter beaches. To get there, you have to climb over a few rocks, but it's not too difficult. The sea is spectacular, clean and clear, the water cool and calm, and it's a pleasure to be there. The tower adds even more character to this beautiful beach, which I recommend you visit.

A tower with benches to enjoy the sea and sunset. Several access points to the sea include small sandy coves.

Torre Pozzillo is a gem for those seeking an intimate retreat where nature, the sea, and modern comforts blend together for a unique experience. Ideal for couples, small groups of friends, or families with older children (there are safe stairs and handrails), the property offers all the ingredients for a rejuvenating vacation, away from the hustle and bustle yet just steps from the beauty of the coastline. Recommendation: 9.5/10 – the only small limitation is the internet connection, but for those who truly want to unplug, it's a plus!

The place is very nice and clean. I have to say that the bathroom is inside the room, so there's no privacy, but other than that, it's great. It's a clean place, and the mattress, for me, is comfortable.

Al Casato dei Ventimiglia

08/03/2026: Nice location, friendly staff, generous portions. We ordered two different meat menus and two different fish menus, and then we tried everyone's dishes. The four of us at the table had a very positive opinion; the dishes were truly tasty and generous.
09/02/2026: A simple, typically Italian restaurant with a very friendly, family atmosphere—you can tell many of the customers are regulars, friends, and local families. The food is also simple and unpretentious: decent and enjoyable pizzas and pasta, nothing exceptional, but well-prepared. However, the salads were a bit of a letdown. That said, overall it's a good place to eat, with fair prices and a welcoming atmosphere. A solid 4/5.

La Pinsallegra

27/12/2025: Excellent choice. Excellent Pinza. A cozy and charming place, with just a few people who can even chat among themselves, compared to other places that are too crowded and noisy. Friendly and smiling. And with the 30% discount with TheFork, if you book during off-peak hours, it's also affordable. Highly recommended. Next time we'll be back and try other tasty dishes. Also suitable for vegans like me. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
17/12/2025: I have visited this restaurant with my partner. We had a reservation and got seated immediately. The service has been as excellent as the food. While sitting outside, you could watch the chef preparing the pinsas. Both, food and drinks were reasonably priced. The servers were incredibly courteous.
