The reviews were a bit discouraging, but we were pleasantly surprised.
We arrived for a light breakfast in front of the square (the location is perfect)
The staff is very kind, organized and pleasant.
We ordered coffee and a simple croissant and it was great and excellent.

Despite the bad reviews we decided to sit down and try it, it was good, the cheese pizza wasn't that great, the spaghetti carbonara was good, but the bacon was burnt. The prices are high.

Canova is featured in Friends in the episode "The One with the Hypnosis Tape", and partly for that reason we had a coffee here, but also because Canova is a classic place in Rome.
The coffee, a marocchino, was excellent and served from the bar by experienced staff. I can't comment on the restaurant part, but if you do as the Italians do, you should have your coffee at the bar, and it's reasonably priced for the location.

Rome is not only about stones and the Pope, but also about the authentic Italian way of life. With the suggestions and help of a lady who works there and also speaks Hungarian, we were able to get a taste of this. It was an experience, we thank her (also).

You can't come to Rome without stopping at Canova. Value for money is zero. Let's just say you pay for the location and the fame.
The biscuits are good, but nothing exceptional.
The coffee isn't anything special. Like the Marocchino.

Loved it! We happened across this place while wandering and liked it so much that we went back again. Our food and beverages came quickly and were of very good taste and quality. The waiter was very kind and even took the time to teach me just a little Italian. The 1st time we visited, there were singers performing in the Piazza, but unfortunately not the 2nd time. The mood was relaxed and eating outside gave a wonderful view!
