The location is beautiful in Piazza Unità d'Italia. The service is a little slow but it's worth it for both the sweet and savoury breakfast.

Absolutely delicious, and you get your drinks and food very quickly. You sit on comfortable sofas in the sun and have a great view of the square and the old buildings. Definitely recommended. Next time I'll definitely try the cakes and pastries.

You often have to wait a bit to find a table, but it's definitely worth it because the breakfasts are truly delicious! Even though the place is a bit pricey, I recommend it without hesitation.

Located in one of Italy's most beautiful squares, this historic café is much more than just a bar; it's an experience to be savoured for its unique setting, elegant atmosphere, and above all, its coffee. Indeed, one of the most curious and appreciated aspects is the way the coffee is served:
Before the espresso, you're offered a chocolate shot to sample.
"Drink the chocolate first, then the coffee": a combination that creates an interesting contrast between the intense sweetness of the chocolate and the strong, roasted aroma of the Trieste espresso. The result is an original, almost ritualistic sensory experience that makes coffee memorable.

Right in the heart of Trieste, in the Plaza area, this place has the perfect location… which might be its strongest feature.
The food? Let’s call it “solidly okay.” Nothing that will change your life, but nothing that will ruin your day either. It’s the kind of meal where you eat, nod, and say, “yep, that was food.”
Now, the service… let’s just say you’ll have plenty of time to reflect on your life choices while waiting. Not terrible, just not winning any awards anytime soon.
Cleanliness? Hmm. It adds a bit of “character.” If you like your dining experience with a touch of mystery, you’re in luck.
Overall, it’s your classic average spot. Great if you’re already there, hungry, and not feeling too picky. In a city full of amazing options like Trieste, though, this one doesn’t exactly steal the spotlight.

Caffè degli Specchi on Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia truly lives up to its name (“Mirror Café”) – everything inside is mirrored, giving the café a unique atmosphere. While the decor may seem a bit old-fashioned, this is precisely what gives it its charm. The artfully presented display is particularly beautiful – the cakes are a highlight not only in terms of taste but also visually.
As one of Trieste's most famous coffee houses, the café boasts an impressive history: Personalities such as Rainer Maria Rilke, Franz Kafka, and James Joyce were among its patrons. A visit therefore feels almost like a little journey back in time.
On warm summer days, sitting outside is especially worthwhile. From here, you have a wonderful view of Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia with the town hall and the Fountain of the Four Continents. It's the perfect spot to watch the lively scene unfold while enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine. The seagulls are quite a spectacle – they're surprisingly adept at helping themselves to guests' food without asking. So, if you're in the front row, keep your eyes peeled!
A nice bonus: If you order wine, you get complimentary snacks – including filled cannoli and a generous portion of chips.
