I had an incredible dining experience at Boccadarno in Florence! The food was absolutely delicious, each dish bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and attended to our every need with warmth and professionalism. And let's talk about the wine selection - simply outstanding! Allora… iniziamo col dire che una cena di fine anno non è propriamente il momento migliore per recensire un ristorante ma, come si dice… è nei momenti peggiori che si vedono i migliori! E nonostante un buon impatto iniziale, cordiale ed informale forse un tantino di troppo iniziamo a consumare la prima portata che consisteva, per tutti e quattro i commensali, in uno spaghetto ai frutti di mare. Aspetto ottimo, anche la qualità dei frutti di mare ma… dopo le prime forchettate ci troviamo la sabbia sotto i denti! Due grosse vongole veraci completamente piene di sabbia!!! Che dire… a mio avviso errore imperdonabile… credo che anche l’ultimo degli chef sappia che i grossi frutti di mare quando non si aprono si buttano!!! Ok… next.. rimostranze al cameriere che ovviamente ci dice che era la prima volta da vent’anni che non succedeva. Ci viene proposto un rombo freschissimo da dividere in quattro filetti accompagnato da patate al forno. Ottimo non c’è che dire… peccato che abbiano impiantato le patate arrosto nello stesso piatto del rombo all’acqua pazza… risultato… patate completamente ammollate!!! Ottima la teriyaki di tonno con spinaci saltati mente un tanto decantato contorno di carciofi fritti risultava improbabile visto che la sfogliatura del carciofo era minima rendendoli durissimi. Finiamo con una torta di mele calda… forse direi arrostita… il tutto accompagnato da un paio di bottiglie di vino bianco friulano scelto da una carta di vini molto ridotta rispetto al mood del locale completamente “rivestito” di bottiglie. Sorpresa finale il conto o meglio il salasso… più di 80 euro a testa per una cena che onestamente, pur considerando la serata speciale doveva assestarsi sui 50 euro a testa. Che dire… peccato perché i buoni propositi sembravano esserci.

Ho avuto il piacere di assaggiare il polpo croccante con hummus di ceci La preparazione del polpo era impeccabile, con una croccantezza esterna perfetta che si sposava splendidamente con la tenerezza della carne interna. Il contrasto di texture era semplicemente divino. L'hummus di ceci, vellutato e ricco, era il complemento ideale, aggiungendo un tocco di cremosità e un sapore delicato che elevava il piatto a un nuovo livello. La combinazione di questi due elementi ha creato un'esperienza culinaria equilibrata e soddisfacente.

We had first stopped here for aperitifs in May 2022 and enjoyed it so much we returned a few more times for Negronis and Aperol spritz. The restaurant, situated on a small piazza in San Niccolo, is quite lively. Subsequent visits we met lovely locals, students, tourists there. The owners, Carlotta and Gerardo, are welcoming and friendly. They treated everyone with courtesy and we felt like ‘regulars’ rather than newbies. Such lovely hosts. When we returned to Firenze recently for two weeks we knew we had to return and we did. We ate a delicious lunch with a lovely bottle of wine that included their Spaghetti Boccadarno (not to be missed) and tuna tataki. Both were delicious and we immediately made reservations to return a few nights later for dinner. When we did, we selected a fresh fish, Rombo, cooked to perfection by chef Patrick. We were shown the fish by Jacobo and he explained how it would be prepared. He also made recommendations for a fine Sicilian wine to compliment it. Chef Patrick came to our table to present the cooked meal. Wow! What a delicate and lovely meal. Jacobo was a wonderful, outgoing server. He really managed the room (mostly locals) well and importantly, has great rapport with guests, the owners and the chef. If you’re in Firenze, take a break from the crowds and cross the Arno to San Niccolo and Boccadarno. You’ll be glad you did. Ciao and grazie mille, Doug and Dan
