A true French bistro in the mountains, family-run, with few tables and a limited menu.
An interesting dining experience.

I wasn't familiar with this restaurant, but I was so pleased! The restaurant is charming, nestled in the countryside just outside Rivisondoli. It's family-run, and everyone is truly kind and knowledgeable. I was struck by their passion for food, wine, local produce (they produce many things, including the wheat they personally harvest on the mountain visible from the restaurant), and for Abruzzo.
The cuisine is different from typical Abruzzo cuisine because the chef, the owner's wife, is French.
We ate an excellent fondue with 3-4 cheeses, a stuffed eggplant, a delicious roast beef, and an excellent venison.
But what really blew me away were the four desserts we ordered, unique and truly amazing. The price was lower than we expected (€55 per person).
There are only a few tables, so reservations are recommended!

A journey through unique flavors you'd never imagine you'd encounter. A delightful place where you can enjoy delicacies ☺️ like fondue, incredible roast beef, and exquisite desserts, including the chocolate mousse. The Bistro is run by a kind and loving family, which is why the service is truly stellar.
The selection of wines and liqueurs is also noteworthy; try the mint, herb, and local root spirit!

Bravi.
Prezzi giusti.

Bistrot Rizziero – A Taste of Abruzzo with a French Touch
Bistrot Rizziero is a historic spot in Rivisondoli, housed in a building that feels like a charming mountain farmhouse overlooking Piazzale Michelangelo. It’s not in the old town, but once you know where it is, you’ll be glad you made the short detour. One huge advantage: parking is easy and plentiful in the square, a real bonus in a tourist village.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, decorated with the elegance of a mountain chalet. The family running the place has a unique story – the mother is French – and they skillfully combine Abruzzese tradition with French finesse. The result is a cuisine that is authentic yet refined, where local ingredients meet French techniques.
The menu reflects this fusion beautifully: purple potato gnocchi with mugnoli and black truffle celebrate local flavors, while the gratinated onion soup and blanquette de veau bring Parisian aromas to the mountains. Don’t miss the eggplant parmigiana on potato rösti, the smoked veal roast beef, or the indulgent croque-monsieur, a perfect example of their culinary mix.
The wine list is well-curated, featuring both local and French labels, ideal for an international clientele. The staff speaks excellent English, making it a great choice for foreign visitors as well.
In August, the bistrot offers unique experiences such as vegetable picking, cooking classes, and shared dinners, adding an extra layer to your stay. Prices are very fair for the quality offered, but booking is highly recommended.
Simply put, Bistrot Rizziero is a hidden gem worth discovering. A must-visit when exploring the Alto Sangro region.

Very nice location with both outdoor and indoor tables. On the menu: onion soup au gratin in the oven, purple potato gnocchi, aubergine parmigiana, cod with buckwheat crepe, roast beef with seasonal vegetables, Croque-monsieur, and other tasty dishes well cooked and well presented. Attentive and courteous service. A very tasty welcome finger food. Prices appropriate to the offer and hospitality. It is advisable to book to secure a table. Leave room for desserts: crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, tropesienne cakes... A visit not to be missed.

Location tipica di uno chalet di montagna, tanta atmosfera. Parcheggio enorme all'estero. Conto equilibrato. Ci tornerò spessissimo.
