Hit and miss on food selection. My espresso was perfect (Illy). Son’s smoothie was more like a slushie and daughter’s gelato was average.

Listen, I’ve read the other reviews before coming here. Yes, the tables are squeezed closer together than passengers on a budget airline, and yes, the waiter might look at you like you just insulted his ancestors if you even think about asking for a cappuccino after 11:00 AM. But frankly, I would happily eat my dinner sitting in a pothole on the cobblestone street just to get a taste of this food. Here is the absolute, undeniable truth about Bistro Ave Roma: you cannot order anything wrong off the menu. You could put on a blindfold, throw a dart at the chalkboard, and whatever they bring to your table will be the greatest culinary masterpiece you've ever consumed. The pasta alone made me want to weep and formally apologize to every box of store-bought spaghetti I’ve ever eaten in my life. But the absolute pinnacle of this surreal dining experience? The gelato. It is dangerously, life-alteringly delicious. And as if eating the world's best frozen nectar wasn't enough, you are treated to the bistro's most exclusive live entertainment: a literal footless bird. I have no idea how the little guy balances, but this magnificent, phantom-limbed avian Pavarotti will serenade you with the song of his people while you scrape the bottom of your dessert bowl. Five stars. I’d give it ten if the internet allowed it. Come for the flawless menu, accept the charmingly aggressive table spacing, and stay for the heroic singing bird.

Great sandwiches but overpriced because of the proximity to the Vatican. Honestly, after a morning in the heat, we knew went in knowing it would be expensive because we just wanted to rest. If you're just looking to grab some quick food, this place is a great spot.

The breakfast & Gelato was delicious. Our waitress Giulia was the best!!
