Excellent dishes, prepared with care!
This is a family-run restaurant located right at the main entrance of the Morgagni-Pierantoni Hospital in Forlì. I tried several dishes and found them all to be very balanced and carefully prepared. The interior is elegant, and the service is fast, friendly, and welcoming!

My experience with Estrò is tied to unforgettable days. I've found myself in the Forlì hospital area several times for wakes, with the mortuary less than two hundred meters away. In that context, having a place to sit, have a hot drink, and escape the hospital corridor for a few minutes was more important than simply "going to the bar."
Estrò, thanks to its location right across from the hospital, has become a practical and immediate support point during an emotionally difficult time.
🌿 Ambience and Atmosphere
The restaurant is well-kept, bright, and tastefully furnished with modern touches. The atmosphere is pleasant, with a combination of clean lines and details that create a welcoming atmosphere. The tables are well-spaced, and the acoustics are good: you can talk without having to raise your voice, which I greatly appreciated, especially on days when you don't want a crowd.
The only less than satisfactory aspect of my visits was the internal temperature: on more than one occasion, I found it a bit high, making the atmosphere a bit stuffy, especially during lunch.
🍽️ My experience during the wake
During the days I visited the mortuary, I stopped at Estrò several times, mostly for a break between visits. The staff was always polite and professional, though not particularly warm. I understand the rush during rush hour, but in such delicate moments, a little more attention to the gaze or the words would have made a difference.
For lunch, I ordered mainly simple and quick dishes, for example:
- Dish of the day (in my case, a pumpkin and rosemary risotto)
- Still water
- Coffee
The risotto was well-executed: well-creamed, balanced flavor, fresh ingredients. The portion, however, seemed rather small for a full lunch, especially considering the price. The service was quick, but a bit impersonal: efficient, yes, but lacking that touch of attentiveness that makes you feel truly welcomed.
The coffee, on the other hand, was one of the highlights: aromatic, clean, with a roast reminiscent of artisanal coffee shops. On more than one occasion, it was the little "ritual" that allowed me to gather my thoughts before returning to the hospital.
💶 Prices
The prices are in line with other well-kept restaurants in the city, but high considering the main purpose of this restaurant. It's not cheap, but it's not out of line either if you consider it just any restaurant and not tied to its location.
The quality/price ratio is decent, although, for lunch, I would expect slightly more generous portions to feel like it's truly balanced.
✔️ Strengths
- Location: Extremely convenient for those near the hospital or mortuary
- Atmosphere: Well-kept, bright, and with good acoustics
- Cuisine: Well-prepared dishes and fresh ingredients
❗ Areas for improvement
- Lunch portions: A bit small for the price
- Service: Sometimes rushed and unsympathetic, especially during peak hours
- Climate comfort: Indoor temperature not always optimal
Estrò is a good place, especially for breakfasts and quick breaks, with a well-kept atmosphere and an excellent coffee shop. The location, in difficult situations like the ones I experienced, was a real help: being able to cross the street and find a decent place to sit was truly important.
At the same time, some aspects—small lunch portions, service that isn't always attentive, and some comfort details—prevent the restaurant from truly making a leap in quality. It remains a practical and overall pleasant choice for those near the Forlì hospital.
We showed up out of the blue, towards the end of the day with 9 people. The kitchen was closing, but they served us an exceptional meal. Four pastas, deserts, regional wine, coffees. It was an unbelievably warm experience. The language barrier was overcome by regulars. The story of this restaurant is beautiful. The food is passionate and delicious. It was gone before we took pictures. Please, please give this place a chance next time your are coming through the area visiting the wineries. Thank you for a perfect welcome on our trip through Italy.

For lunch after a visit to Morgagni. Cuttlefish with excellent beans, followed by spinach with garlic, oil, and chili pepper. I ate simply because I was on a diet, but everything was served quickly and was excellent. The owners were excellent. The price was also absolutely reasonable, which I appreciated: €20. Well done.
