29/08/2025: Of all the many Gelaterias we have sampled, this is one of the most impressive of a generally highly impressive lot. Outstanding selection of flavours and stunning results! Brilliant.
Returned again in June 2025 and went straight to this outlet for more brilliance.. not quite as dazzled as before and rather surprised that on this occasion, the chocolate in the stracciatella had discernable grains of sugar. Still, well worth a visit.
27/08/2025: Gelateria Fatamorgana is one of the most popular destinations for artisanal gelato lovers in Rome. With several locations throughout the city, including Monti, Trastevere, Prati, and Flaminio, it offers a unique experience thanks to its selection of natural and creative gelato. Natural Ingredients and Creativity
Founded by Maria Agnese Spagnuolo in 2003, Fatamorgana stands out for its exclusive use of natural ingredients, without the addition of thickeners, colorings, or preservatives. This approach ensures a lighter and more digestible gelato, also suitable for those with food intolerances. The gelateria is particularly popular for its wide selection of vegan and lactose-free flavors.
Unique and Innovative Flavors
Fatamorgana is known for its unusual and original flavor combinations. Among the most popular flavors are "Sacripante" (rum cream with coffee, amaretti biscuits, and cocoa), "Dragon Fruit with chili pepper," and "Peaches with wine." Customers praise the quality and variety of flavors, which range from classics to more daring ones.
Atmosphere and Service
Fatamorgana gelaterias have a simple and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for a sweet break while strolling through the streets of Rome. The staff is generally described as friendly and helpful, ready to advise customers on their choice of flavors.
Prices
Prices are considered average for a quality artisanal gelato shop in Rome. For example, a cup with two flavors can cost around 3-4 euros. Some customers have noted that the portions may seem smaller than at other gelato shops, but the quality of the gelato more than justifies the price.
Conclusion
If you're in Rome and want to try high-quality artisanal gelato, Fatamorgana is definitely a must-visit.
