Bar Tre Scalini In Roma

we had a fantastic meal at Tre Scalini....I see a lot of negative reviews but we had a great time and have zero complaints. The restaurant is in a great location and the food is fantastic.

It is conveniently located and the waiters do quite a bit to make the seating comfortable. On a hot day, they set up fans and water vapor to cool the patrons. The food is ok, but nothing great. The aglio e oleo spaghetti was too oily. Even their legendary tartufo dessert is only so so. However, it is spacious and offers the weary traveler a quick place to stop. The bad part is that it is a 100% tourist shop. It was 6.5 euros for a small bottle of water, so 13 for two. Our total bill for 2 spritzes, three dishes, dessert, and 2 espressos and 1 gelato was 157 euros. The waiter tried to add a 20% tip (30 euros) to my bill, which I caught upon inspection before paying. They would never do this to an Italian (I didn’t pay). So be careful when paying. Although the bathroom is well maintained upstairs, there is a person accepting tips and doling out paper towels upon exiting. They keep the place cleaner than most restaurants so worth dropping a spare coin in. The bathroom may be shared among more than one business but I didn’t confirm.

The coffee was good, but the waiting time was a bit long and the cost of the coffee itself wasn't cheap, but the view from the garden next to the fountain was really great.

Good coffee, but a bit pricey. The service was nice, but the wait to place an order was long, as was the wait for two coffees. Good location with a view of the fountains and Piazza Navona.

Very kind staff, I ate the best carbonara of my life, I will definitely go back before leaving, I recommend it if you want to eat really well, but you don't have to take the price too much into account

Nice place and atmosphere in front of Fontaine Piazza

I had a table with a view of the obelisk, which was fantastic. The food wasn't perfect. I ordered tomato soup and melanzane, and got melanzane with tomato juice that had a lot of ice in it. I told them I still wanted the soup and returned the juice. I got the soup before I'd even finished the melanzane. I'd give the melanzane an 8/10. The tomato soup tasted strange. I think it came from a can. I'd give it a 5.5/10.

We had dinner here one evening while in Rome. We ordered vegetable soup, artichoke bread, Caesar salad, and spaghetti. We liked every one of them. It's a great spot to experience the hustle and bustle of the square, open to the public. My only gripe is the waiter, who asked for an extra 10 euros when paying the bill, despite the high prices (for example, a Caesar salad costs 20 euros). (All the front tables of the restaurants in the square are always full, so if you're lucky, like me, you'll find an empty table.)
