I put 5 stars only because I can't put 10,000... all very fresh products at zero meters... typical Calabrian cuisine... exquisite dishes... very kind staff... truly a place that warms your heart...

A casual but pleasant discovery. Small and welcoming trattoria, simple but tasty traditional dishes, kind and polite staff. Highly recommended.

On Saturday 7th June, returning from Sicily to Rome, we asked IA for a place to have lunch. Being close to Altomonte, they recommended Zio Pierino. We called before leaving the motorway because we thought they had already closed the kitchen, but instead they waited for our arrival. A festive welcome and excellent hospitality. The tasty home cooking. It seemed like we had returned to the 70s. A must-visit when passing through Altomonte

Pino and his family were incredibly gracious hosts. We had at least three meals here over the course of a weekend, and each one brought something new and memorable. Every dish was prepared with care in a simple, vibrant, rustic style that reflects real Calabrian tradition.The antipasti were tremendous—generous, varied, and full of bold, local flavor. The crespelle with ricotta were superb, and the peperone crusco was such an interesting and delicious discovery. The pastas were consistently next-level, and the house wine—served in classic tumbler glasses—rounded everything out beautifully. This is the kind of place you go out of your way to find if you want to experience authentic Italian cuisine in a setting far from the beaten tourist track. A completely classic experience.

This is the second time we have been welcomed by Uncle Pierino and his wonderful family... We booked the night before and there were 16 of us but the entire staff is certainly not afraid... They welcomed us, fed us and pampered us, paying attention to all our needs (of the 16, 8 were children between 12 and 1 year old).... The food is excellent in quality and abundance and lets you discover the flavours and aromas of a generous land and, excuse me if I repeat myself, welcoming... The staff then... Wonderful!!!! Thank you a thousand times and we will return soon

At Trattoria Zio Pierino, hospitality is at home: we arrived late, around 3:00 pm, but they welcomed us with a smile and a phrase that says it all about their spirit: “We certainly won’t let you starve!” And so it was: from that moment on, a real journey into the authentic flavors of Calabrian tradition began. The appetizers were one marvel after another: fragrant frittatine, tasty black tripe, delicate and fragrant elderberry fritters, and of course the legendary pepi cruschi, crunchy and irresistible. Each dish seemed to tell a story, that of home cooking made with love and genuine ingredients. Zio Pierino is not just a trattoria, it is a culinary experience that makes you feel at home, pampered and full (pleasantly full!). Highly recommended for those who want to savor true Calabrian cuisine with the warmth of old-fashioned hospitality.

Siamo stati da Zio Pierino in due occasioni la scorsa settimana, incluso il pranzo del 25 aprile. Si tratta di un'osteria a gestione familiare, semplice e schietta. La prima volta abbiamo cenato ordinando un antipasto da condividere, ricco di prelibatezze locali, salumi, formaggi freschi e stagionati, sottoli e fritti tipici (di fiori di sambuco e borragine, fenomenali e mai provati prima!). Già l'antipasto era più che sufficiente a sfamare tutti, quindi a seguire abbiamo ordinato solo delle verdure (broccoletti ripassati e melanzane "a ciambotta" con gli immancabili zafarani o pipi cruschi). Tutto molto buono, con i sapori di casa ed in quantità veramente abbondanti! Il 25 aprile, il locale era strapieno (dentro e fuori) ma il servizio é stato rapido e cortese. Memori della cena precedente abbiamo saltato l'antipasto ordinando solo maccaroni al ragù, una mitica trippa cucinata all'antica, poi verdure (fave e misticanza) ad accompagnare un ottimo arrosto misto e poi un dessert. In entrambe le occasioni abbiamo bevuto un gradevole vino rosso della casa. Che dire, é una trattoria di paese, e a noi piacciono esattamente così, anche considerando il conto più che onesto! Ci teniamo a sottolineare la gentilezza di tutta la famiglia, madre, padre e figlie, nonché della nonna maestra di modi e cucina tradizionale! Inutile dire che torneremo quanto prima, quindi raccomandatissimo!

Mangiare in questa trattoria è un'autentica esperienza gastronomica calabrese. Innanzitutto si viene accolti con un sorriso e una cordialità che fa sentire subito a casa. I piatti sono abbondanti, saporiti e gustosi. I prodotti sono locali, dai formaggi ai salumi fino all’olio di oliva che valorizza al meglio ogni piatto e ne esalta i sapori autentici. Il rapporto qualità-prezzo è davvero sorprendente: per la cura, la quantità e la bontà dei piatti serviti, il conto è più che onesto. In questa trattoria si mangia bene, si spende il giusto e si esce con il sorriso. Consigliatissima
