For the chestnut festival in San Donato di Ninea, we traveled from Bari and had lunch at Uncle Pierino's in Altomonte. The typical local cuisine was exceptional, to say the least. The family welcome was exquisite. We'll definitely be back.

On our way back from Catanzaro, where my daughter studies, my wife and I decided to visit the Sanctuary of San Francesco di Paola, a place we'd never been before. After the visit, since it was around 1 p.m., I chose a place with good reviews on Google along the way back to Naples, where we'd stop for lunch. After less than an hour of driving through beautiful scenery, we arrived at this bar/restaurant. We didn't have very high expectations, but... we were pleasantly surprised.
At the entrance, given the hour, there were only two occupied tables, which were quickly vacated. A chalkboard on the wall listed the dishes and prices, and I was intrigued by the full daily menu for €18 and the house appetizer for €15 (there was a clear disparity, but I later discovered why). A friendly man (I think the owner) took our orders, and since we weren't particularly hungry, we opted for two appetizers and two first courses.
After a few minutes, a kind young lady with a charming smile began bringing out so many hot, flavorful, and seasonal dishes that they no longer fit on the large table.
EVERYTHING DELICIOUS AND EVERYTHING FINISHED IMMEDIATELY!
The problem was the two first courses, which, although delicious, we couldn't finish and could have easily skipped (hand-made pasta, one with porcini mushrooms and one with ragù).
My wife couldn't resist ordering a dessert: a pumpkin and walnut tart, and the two of us couldn't finish that either.
The price was more than fair, including water, 1/4 cup wine, and 1 coffee: €54.
A family-run business (according to the young lady), well-managed, and one I would recommend to anyone in the area.
