Bar Ristorante Pizzeria Cavallo Bianco In Macra

All amazing loved staff and food!!

A restaurant we stumbled upon on the road during our trip: Cavallo Bianco is one of those mountain places where time has stood still, where you don't have to worry about the outdated decor or whether the food is served on classic, outdated white plates. The food was simple but good and plentiful: for €15, we ate two excellent traditional mountain appetizers, a plate of tagliatelle with ragù, and a braciola with baked potatoes. The owners are two elderly people who probably weren't expecting to see outsiders in the area on a cold, snowy autumn day... yet we were greeted with kindness and smiles, told family and local anecdotes, and the owner even helped me put on my coat, just as men used to do in times long forgotten. My husband told me this was our anniversary lunch (which is tomorrow), and I told him that a simple and authentic place like this will always be among my fondest memories.

Authentic Italian food! You have a great view over the valley, really beautiful. It was a really nice lunch menu for only 15 euro. Also fine to have a vegetarian menu. It felt like a true Italian experience! We can really recommend it. We were doubting at first, but once inside we felt very welcome. Be sure to sit at the back to have the view.

An incredible place where time seemed to have stopped forty or fifty years ago. In a small village, on a cliff-side riverbank, with a stunning view. We were there in mid-September, in the evening, as dusk was falling. We entered the dark bar (but the window said "aperto"), were quickly greeted by the very friendly host, and were ushered into a back room overlooking the valley. The host not only served us homemade dishes but also told us about the pastoral history of the valley and the local dialect... A modest trattoria, with simple, home-cooked dishes, simple but prepared with love. Good, home-made wines, both red and white. All in all: a unique dinner to end a ten-day stay in Piedmont.

The first impression wasn't the best: a restaurant stuck in the '70s behind a shocking pink facade. We were the only customers on the evening of August 15th, and when we arrived, the lights were still off and it looked like there was no one waiting (despite our reservations). We chose a table overlooking the stream in the back room and began with the set menu, which, for that day, included a mix of four appetizers, a first course, a second course, a side dish, and a homemade dessert. Simple, traditional Piedmontese dishes, cooked with passion and, above all, accompanied, between courses, by stories from the owner, a historic figure in the Maira Valley. We washed it all down with a liter of water and 75cl of excellent house red. We spent €66 for two. It's certainly not a trendy place, but it's welcoming and authentic in its homey atmosphere.

We arrived at 2:30 PM on August 15th. We were greeted warmly. The owners are lovely people. The food was excellent. I highly recommend it.
