Bar Ristorante Lago Smeraldo In Macugnaga

I spent a few hours in this place after a hike. From the terrace you can enjoy an enchanting view of the east face of the Rosa. The strudel was excellent (I allowed myself an encore). Cozy atmosphere, fast service even though it was crowded. Convenient for the cable car (it's practically attached).

Beautiful staff! We were on our way to Bivacco Antigine, and host was really helpful, explaining the route and telling about surroundings in general. Food is good for mountain restaurant, too, and the view both from restaurant, or the outside terrace is breathtaking. Good location, just near the elevator, and close to the Madonna viewpoint, and excellent short via ferrata is in 20 min walk.

We had lunch in this refuge after a nice visit to the Monte Moro pass on a cold, windy day in mid-September complete with light snow, very fascinating but unfortunately deprived of the splendid panorama of the Rosa that can be enjoyed from here. We started with an excellent platter of Ossola cured meats and cheeses accompanied by a good sauce of their own production, to then continue with sausage and perfectly firm polenta and a tasty cereal and vegetable soup, accompanied by more cheese and croutons. Friendly and helpful staff, quick service, correct prices and a peaceful atmosphere.

I went the other day to take a walk in the beautiful Macugnaga, and then with the cable car I stopped to eat at the Rifugio Lago Smeraldo, being at more than 2800 meters the place is definitely worth a relaxing break. I ate outside, on the terrace with an amazing view. I ate very very well. There are many good things on the menu, I ate an excellent polenta with wild boar then I also tasted the braised meat, Macugnaghese pasta, and a fabulous cocotte of melted cheese with onions. There are also great desserts, yours made by them. I highly recommend a refreshing passage.

Breathtaking panoramic terrace with direct view of the Rosa. Also accessible to disabled people, passing directly from the cable car station. Young, welcoming and helpful staff. The mixed platter with Ossola cheeses and cold cuts is recommended.

This restaurant is located at 2900 meters, you should take the cable car to Mount Moro. They are serving traditional dishes from the mountain, my favorite was the polenta with cheese. The view from the terrace is spectacular!
