Bar Progresso is an icon of Messina and has always been one of the bars with the best products. It's surprising to see so many negative reviews, but it doesn't matter. The people of Messina will always have this bar in their hearts, and a few reviews won't undermine their long and excellent work.

Unbeatable coffee and fresh cream gelato. Also try the schiudono, still gelato but with something different. Definitely worth it. Artisans for three generations.

We launched our Sicilian breakfast right here. Excellent granita and brioche, exquisite hospitality, and a truly friendly atmosphere. If you're in Messina, it's worth a stop!

Delicious ice cream with a nice spongato. The pistachio flavor is very enjoyable, but the brioche wasn't the best.

Ristorante La Forgia Maurizio

11/10/2025: Maurizio was very kind and welcoming. The caponata was the best I've tasted in the Aeolian Islands, and the stuffed squid with sauce was wonderful! Thank you.
05/10/2025: For the owner alone this restaurant is worth a visit. Such a lovely and engaging man, who spoke Italian, English and German with us. The food is delicious and though on the pricier side, portion size and quality justify it. We had the best seafood noodles here. (Sadly I only have a photo of the empty shells)

Mediterraneo Cafe'

21/10/2025: We visited this little wine bar twice as we liked it. The first time we had the delicious Etna wine with a cheese & olive board. The second time we had afternoon cocktails. It's a quiet little bar on a busy walkway. The staff were friendly and service was good.
15/10/2025: This place is spectacular. I’m a noted critic and have taken a lot of pleasure reading the reviews and the cheeky responses from the owner on Google about this place. Honestly, I think someone has a personal vendetta against this place because it is truly delightful. Super cute, great service, tasty light bites. All the whining about prices is so confusing because the prices are consistent with everything in the neighborhood. Give this place a shot. It rocks.
