We always stop here for a great sandwich and an Aperol Spritz. The desserts are amazing as well. We also recommend continuing toward Miramare Castle and then walking on to Trieste. You can also take a bus from the beach to the center of Trieste.

A coffee house that couldn't be more typical. The wonderful prosecco on tap and the cream slice were divine. Many locals come here for a meal.

After the Napoleonica, a stop at Lorena is a must. I highly recommend it for the good food, the place, and Lorena's kindness and patience. For lovers of simple, authentic dishes, this is the place for you. What can I say about the creamed cod crostini and the cured meats? Yummy! Happy discovery, and leave room for curiosity. I came across it for the first time after walking the Napoleonic Trail. I found a table in the back garden; the place was super crowded given the beautiful holiday. We ordered a carne salada (excellent, garnished with pistachios and mozzarella), a crouton, half a liter of wine and half a liter of water. I was told to be patient, which I understood and accepted; the place was packed and I wasn't in a hurry. I really enjoyed the food, and I found the bill simply fair. If I could offer a tip, a quick visit to the table between customers wouldn't hurt. A true osteria of the past... recommended!

20/11/2025: On Saturday, November 15, 2025, a friend and I were looking for a typical Trieste place where we could eat a good hot ham sandwich and some other delicacies, as true Triestine people often do. Luckily, the 5 or 6 places we usually go to were all closed... it was 2:45 PM... I say fortunately because when we arrived at Barriera, we looked at each other and said together, "Let's go there," seeing everything open. We found all the staff professional, friendly, and welcoming, and they seated us with a smile. We immediately ordered 2 ham and eggplant sandwiches, which were amazing, 1 ham and gorgonzola, which was even better, 2 beers, and 300 grams of ham for home, since just the thought of having already finished it made your mouth water, and all at a very fair total price. We used to go to 5 or 6 places for years, now we'll only go to one place... "Salumeria a mano" Go there and you'll hit the mark. Congratulations to everyone Staff...Alessandro and Rea will be back to you very soon.
