During our week in Puglia, we couldn't miss stopping at Antico Forno Santa Caterina. As soon as we entered, we were enveloped by an unmistakable scent: that of a bakery that preserves tradition, where bread is still baked in a wood-fired oven every day.
It is wonderful to watch the comings and goings of delicacies that enter and exit the oven, but the most fascinating experience is undoubtedly seeing Signora Teresa at work. Next to the hot brazier, with ancient and wise gestures, she prepares fresh orecchiette for lunch. A ritual that smells of genuineness and authenticity, an added value that I hope will never be lost.
The quality of the food exceeded all expectations. We tasted the focaccias, the bread and the brioches, and we still can't say which was the best.
We will definitely be back.

I visited this place on 3rd FEB.
Curious to visit this bakery that appeared by chance on Instagram, I was truly dazzled by both the place and the staff.
A visit to the ancient FORNO SANTA CATERINA is certainly a rediscovery of traditions and a testimony of a craft which, despite the passing of the years, does not lose its beauty nor its value.

Everyone is very kind and welcoming. There are several places to sit outside, they also do lunch. All beautiful and delicious. Mrs. Teresa is very sweet 🥰

We drove to town just for this oven. The quality of the flour from Altamura and the taste are like a calling card for Puglia. If you have the road from there, set aside an hour for a visit

If you pass through Altamura, you absolutely must stop by this bakery. Personally, as soon as I crossed the small door I felt like I was going back in time, the scent, the wooden planks with the bread on them, the mouth of the oven, everything made you understand how bread was once made.
