Antica Trattoria Suban In Trieste

Wonderful place with delicious dishes.

Eating at Suban is always a pleasant experience. The food and service are excellent and the environment is warm and welcoming. To be honest, this time I have to point out something a little unpleasant that happened to me. I am a vegetarian and did not inform the waiter of this. I didn't feel I had to do it, also because I ordered basil crepes and no other ingredients were indicated on the menu. When I had already started eating them, the waiter, having learned that I was a vegetarian, told me that they had been baked au gratin with roast sauce and that I should have informed him that I was a vegetarian. I didn't want to get into controversy, but I believe that the ingredients that make up the dish should be written on the menu. I'm not the one who has to warn you that I'm veg and it's not obvious that basil crepes could contain meat... I was disappointed, also because the menu doesn't offer many alternatives for those who don't eat meat or fish... If I may, I would suggest completing the menu with the list of ingredients that make up the dishes and perhaps adding a few more veg dishes, given that there are now many people who have made this choice. Without taking anything away from the quality of the food and service, which are very high, and the value for money which is excellent.

One of the oldest reataurants in Trieste and still superb food. You.can have something from the great selection of tradidional cusine, but also a good steal or even a degustation menu with selection of meals to try as much as possible from the menu. As a bonus owner is checkih your satisfaction with food and service and it must be close to 90 years of age. Only downside is to find a parking in the vicinity of the restautant so it is hihgly recommended to arrive with a taxy.

Very nice place.. Atmosphere.. I was in Trieste and luckily they recommended this restaurant, more precisely trattoria.. 🙂 everything was perfect..

Suban, the name alone is a total guarantee...unmissable at least once for those NOT from Trieste. We, on the other hand, are luckier. Thanks to the legendary Mr. Mario and all his staff.

Historic venue, typical Trieste restaurant, competent and friendly staff, if there are vegetarians the staff will accommodate you by modifying the dishes where possible

Entrare in un ristorante che si porta appresso una tradizione di cultura, di gastronomia locale, di gestione familiare è un’esperienza unica. Se unita all’eccellenza dei piatti proposti e delle materie prime utilizzate allora l’esperienza è perfetta. Non possiamo che ringraziare l’attuale generazione della famiglia Suban per averci accolti con calore umano e atmosfera cordiale nel loro locale. La loro professionalità ed empatia sono state molto apprezzate.

This was our favorite Trieste restaurant! We visited based on a recommendation from the hotel concierge. It did not disappoint. Lovely spot on a hill. Highlights for us were the tagliatelle and savory crepe. Would love to have again - highly recommend!
